My mechanical knowledge can be written on the back of a postage stamp.
But I decided that I would check the brakes and re grease the wheel bearings on our Coromal Princeton 4 wheeler.
After watching a couple of videos on you tube it was battle stations.
I am very pleased with my efforts. All wheels were serviced and I guess it will be a true test when we hit the road at the end of the month.
Save heaps of $$$$$ but more important got great satisfaction on my D.I.Y. effort.
I also did a similar exercise in installing our diesel heater a month ago.
I guess that if one thinks they can .....they will, and conversely if one thinks they can't ... will you know the answer to that.
Of course if I was working I would not have the time to do all these projects on the van and around the home.
Ah!!! the joys of retirement. Always something to do..... Never a dull moment.

Well done Jay&Dee. Diesel heater will be my next van job. I try and get one job accomplished between trips to see if I have done well or need to lift my game a little..
Well done.
YouTube is amazing if you look in the right places.
I did an oil change on the tug the other week. Nothing special there.
Went to the servo to fill up.
Walking back out from paying I spotted a huge pool of dirty oil on the forecourt under the front of the tug.
Instant press-up on the cement to look under..Sump plug in place--not the tug.
Staff then told me it was from the car before me.
Should have twigged to the oil being dirty.
After a few minutes my heart rate got back to normal.
Started installing my new diesel heater yesterday. It is a Planar and I also purchased a muffler at the same time on ebay. The exhaust pipe doesn't fit the muffler too well so had the pry it open to get it on. Also found the bolts on the heater not long enough to go thru the floor so ended up bolting the unit to the metal plate and then screwing the plate to the floor. Just run the electrics and have to yet run the pipe from the external tank to the filter/pump. Had my son weld up a stand for the tank which I bolted onto the rear bumper next to the spare on our Coromal Essential. Will post some photos once I have finished the installation.

Glen did you by any chance happen to run all the wiring etc thru split tubes or cable under the van to protect them from stones etc etc.
Well worth doing and only costs the price of a stubby.
Great what one can achieve when we put our mind to it.
Well done mate
Jay&Dee
just watch out that you dont self-service (oh....you know what I mean lol) your RVs while still in warranty period, otherwise anything to do with the likes of wheels, brakes etc will void your warranty.
Interesting that the Dealer quoted me around $500, and repairers about $250-300. The manufacturer will do the service for $199 !!
If you need to get the service done by others, shop around. They don't have to be a dealer or repairer, but obviously you do want someone that knows all about brake magnets etc

Hi Glen. Great to see you having a go at installing your diesel heater. I purchased a Planer 2kw 4 months ago and am having no success getting any caravan workshop to install it. They say they do not want anything to do with Planer. I purchased the Planer after doing some research on them and did not come across any serious issues. Good luck with your installation and hope it fires up well, no pun intended.
