Oh dear WobblyNut you have hit a nerve in me with your comment where I live in North west Vic there isn't a duel lane highway with in almost 300 km in any direction there are lots of bends with few straights long enough to pass a van doing 95 I drive a semi from time to time and the arrogance of a few and I do emphasise a few as I have came across some excellent van drivers, is unbelievable where they sit on 85 -90 on the bendy bits only to go up to 95or 96 on the straights there for eliminating any chance of the truck getting past as they are limited to 100 some might be lucky enough to be able to do 102, some of the time all it would take is for the van driver to move over to the left while still being on the black stuff and allow the truck top pass I recently come back from Mildura and was stuck behind a van doing 85 - 90 for about 60 km he was holding up a 2 trucks and 11 cars the road is plenty road enough to pass if the a.h had the decency to simply move over to the left on the straights, and he went through Hattah where there is about 700 meters of room to pull over at the shop and let everyone pass, it is this kind of driving that causes other drivers to take unsafe chances to pass out of frustration, this can hold up a truck long enough that he can't make his next mandated rest period, and late for his delivery where he may have to wait over night to get unloaded and so be late for his next pick up ect ect remember the truck driver is working caravaners on on holiday ie no schedule to keep. It is simple curtesy to keep a look in your mirrors and think of other road users , I see people complain about van registration charges try a commercially registered truck depending on the number of axels its around $14,000 a year for some and if he is held up and misses a load he could have just lost $2000 that week depending on his trips.
The other thing most cars speedos are out by 5 km from the factory you may think you are doing 100 but your only doing 95 check it with a GPS . My VW getta was out by 8 km .
Ok I hope you get my point I am not saying that you do all these things just that a lot of drivers do . End of rant

I agree with what you are saying Woody n Sue, what we try and do are the following , use a two way radio to talk to the truck following and drop my speed when being overtaken by the truck, when possible try not hug the centre line, move over when possible and if the van in front is travelling nearly the same speed as i am i will stay back so the truck can pass me then hopefully then van in front.
As you say the truck driver HAS a job to do or try and keep a schedule so he or she can earn a living so they and the family can enjoy our great country as well.
I agree that it has taken many years to get some respect from the truckies and we hope it hasn't ruined our relationship (with the trucks) on the road.
well, I believe that television does depict on the feelings on many.
How many, are happy with the Colorado add where the son and father are towing caravan through the scub.
only to turn onto the hiway, and say bloody caravaners?
it has taken many years for the truckies to respect us, coz we do the right thing. only to be stuffed by this add.
Regardless of what the tow vehicle is, I think the advertisement is ridiculous, who would tow a caravan at that sort of speed, in that sort of terrain. No respect for either vehicle.

That add is insane as the driver overtakes on a hill. Now I am biased and hate holdens so my comment would be what a load of BS as the collwobbles can't even pull their own weight lol
As far as woody's comments go. It's a good habit to get into when on a straight to pull over and let the procession go through, I have traveled a bit with caravan and only a car, nothing boils my blood more than a completely ignorant caravaner sitting on 80 in a 110 zone and not pulling over when safe. That's what causes accidents, the frustration.
Lesson: BE COURTEOUS on the roads and let faster traffic go through please.
Cheers

For goodness sake guys, it is an advertisement not a documentary.
The creators are feeling pretty chuffed I reckon, they have got so many people talking about it so the brands get imprinted. That is the sign of a good ad to the advertisers.

My thoughts as well Neil. Since when did TV advertisements reflect reality anyway.
Its off the topic, but I agree with Reg and the ignorance of many RVers. In CP's you meet nomads who spend many months every year on the road but don't have UHF and don't car less about vehicles behind them. Their attitude is "we paid our road taxes - they can get stuffed"
I have never been a truckie, but understand the time dealines these guys are put under nowdays. I always try to give them the chance to pass me - usually if they cant pass me straight away (and most have to exceed to speed limit to meet the schedule imposed on them) I will call them on my UHF and ask how/when they want to overtake.
Ive found Linfox and Toll drivers to be the most professional. But Ive also had a couple of bad experiences with truckies. One was on the Sturt HW south of Coober Peedy. I knew we were about to go into a twisting and hilly part and he wanted to go faster than me (and the speed limit). I called him up and he acknowledged me. I told him if he backed off a bit (he was on my bumper by then) I would pull over through the loose metal and into a rest area so he could pass me. He didn't reply, but backed off and I pulled over into the rest area. He went past. No thank you from him - that really annoyed me as I showered my 'van with stones in helping him past.
Truckies don't own the road. I little pleasantry towards RVers might help

I agree Bruce a quick thank you from the truck driver Over the cb would have been nice I know I do, but there is always a but when a truck pulls back in and flicks his blinker from left to right and back to left that is accepted as a thank you in the industry.
And yes a two way radio is a no brainer all caravaners should have one

Really I think anyone offended by that ad needs to get a life, it is all tongue in cheek. Do we really know what speeds they are traveling at it's all assumed. So I can assume you guys have no sense of humour. Congratulation Holden you have achieved a great Ad we all talk about and whinge about it.
Yes there are some good truckies and some bad ones as there are good and bad RVer's.
