None Breaking News

I was talking to a mate of mine the other day he told me about his (New ) van he had bought,he had the van two days and  had trouble with the breaks on the van, he was away from home and had to get the breaks fixed, the problem was the magnet wires inside the break drum had gone in between the break shoe return spring and shorted out and cut the magnet wires in half on two wheels , when he returned home went to the dealer and told them the story ,the answer was not our problem go to the builders  same answer not our problem, they said to him go to the chassis builder, they excepted the blame and refunded his money, the repairer that did the job and fixed it did a great job the magnet wires will never get jammed in the springs again,he showed me photo,s he took before and after repair,I have never herd of that before, very poor work on behalf of the chassis builder.

The chassis builder would buy the axle as an assembly from the under carriage supplier. Most likely alko.

Olley, I believe as the seller of the van the Dealer had a legal responsibility to fix the problem, regardless who or what caused the problem (as long as it was a problem that existed in the van when he sold it).

Too often in this industry we hear stories of "not my problem, talk to my supplier", when in reality they are the representatives of their supplier to the customer.

We should be holding these guys to account.

Agree 100%.  Sometimes I use the phrase " CONSUMER LEGISLATION DICTATES THAT IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILTY TO FIX XYZ". You would be surprised how well this works.

My sister in law had serious car problems with gas system etc and asked me to come with her to pick up car. I did and when I asked for the Gas Certificate the owner said not required - and I pulled the relevant Regulation out of my pocket and showed him.

VERY embarrassed he called in his "licenced gas man" who also said gas certificate not required. I simply said read this regulation - much embarrassment again. Just too lazy and who cares attitude IMHO, by both people.

Yes hold em to account.

Plendo and Baz are right. The dealer is responsible.

Get your supplier to put it in writing. Then take your complaint to consumer affairs. In all states the person or company who supplied the goods to you are responsible for all problems and warranties.
