CP's in Melbourne

Hi Folks

After our brief stay in Broken Hill (a separate post probably immediately below this one), we intend to spend about a month in Melbourne.

We're after a CP (unless someone has a better site idea that has power/water/sullage) which cost wise will probably be on the outskirts of the city.  No fussed as to whether north, south or wherever.

Want something that's not full of feral permanents, noisy neighbours or traffic, clean facilities.  Don't need pool or bouncy castle or that sort of stuff - just clean, quiet and reasonable price.

Happy to go right out to the outskirts of Melbourne if we can drive to a nearby public transport point to get into the CBD etc

Thanks............

We have always stay at Big 4 Coburg handy to tram , But friends have stay at Crystal Brook tourist Park at Doncaster and said it is also handy to public transport and lots of natural bush land around $40 a night may get cheaper further out depends how close you want to be to the city .

We often stay at Coburg is a good central spot, park is hidden in the back streets of Coburg with a creek behind it. it is an old park so sites aren't huge and some can be difficult getting into but the people who run the park are always happy to help in anyway and the amenities blocks are excellent. Tram and bus close by. We have also stayed at Crystal Brook , countryified park with lots of trees and bird life around, good amenities, problem here was last time we were there the roads within the park are quite ordinary especially if it rains but they may have fixed this up by now as that was two years ago. Bus close by and quick trip into town

the other park we have stated at is Big 4 Dandenong( it is not in the Dandenongs but the suburb Dandenong which can be a bit confusing) it is South of Melb. Not your usual Big 4 no gear for kids really so a bit cheaper. I consider it on the outskirts of Melb but there is a bus outside that takes you to the train station so easy to get into city and you are not far away from the Dandenongs and the lovely spots South of Melbourne. I think this would probably be the cheapest and best option if cost comes into it. You will need a Miki card I think it is for transport

How, B&B, mmmm, no ferals, no noise, no dirty facilities, mmm, maybe no B&B mate biggrinbiggrin

There is a CVP in Frankston Dandenong Rd, Dandenong South, I think Big4 but I personally don't recommend it but others here have stayed there and said no probs. There is another one at Pakenham that is OK I believe but don't know for sure. There is the Show grounds at Berwick (Arcoona Park) I think but that is not for the length you say.

Please, Please, DO NOT stay at the one in Sandown on the highway. Saying no more.

Now, of you don't mind a 1.5 hour drive I could highly recommend Coalfileds CVP in Wonthaggi. It is privately owned but does have a village for over 55's down the back but all older people and quiet, no probs at all. The CV section is separate and nice amenities, pool, although could be closed now for the winter break. Close to shops, hospital and schools if you want to improve your knowledge.

Public transport can get you to Melbourne CBD and back with many stops along the way as far as Dandenong then express to the city. You can also get a bus across to Cowes on Philip Island and another one can take you over to Traralgon.

If you mention my name to Margaret, Peter or Daniel at Coalfields you will have one of two things happen mate, they will take good care of you OR show you the quickest way out of town. Say hi for me if you stay there. Again, DO NOT stay at the Minors Rest CVP. Say no more.

Korumburra has a nice CVP as well and about the same time frames.

You will have to go out into the semi sticks mate to get close to what you ask for.

Don't know why Dougwe doesn't recommend the Dandenong Big4, it's a great little park, and as stated in an earlier post has a bus stop right outside the door. Reasonably quiet in regards to traffic noise, and last time we stayed fees were quite reasonable. I suspect you could negotiate a good price if staying for a few weeks.

Regards,

Mike.

Just my opinion Mike. I lived in Dandenong for 20 years and know the area well. I have a reason though but it's not for here mate.

Things may have changed and it's a real nice CVP now, only those that have stayed there know for sure.

I WOULD NOT recommend Hobsons bay Caravan Park in Williamstown, I believe they also own Honey Hush in Laverton North.

Ballan has a nice little CP adjoinng parkland and away from main roads. There is a train into Melb. every hour and you have easy drives to Ballarat, Daylesford and Geelong. Also Ballan is a delightful little town.

What about Berwick Showgrounds - Akoonah Park in Camps 7 - freeway access to the city or train. Bit. Further out but very pleasant, market on Sunday's.

Doug - we all know your reputation as a young tearaway - you probably got run out of Dandenong by a few irate fathers with pregnant daughters - now don't deny it.......you were a wild child a few years back LOL

Guys - appreciate all this - please keep the options coming for us......

Stayed at Pakenham C/P for 4 months about 2 years ago, a bit older but very well run and close to plenty of public transport, no rowdy patrons put up with, though you have to pack up every 60 days for 24 hours.

Cheers

It,s amazing how Dandenong improved when Dougwe left for Wonthaggi and now Wonthaggi has improved since Dougwe left there.I.m not trying to insinuate anything ,but interesting facts.....cheers  Peter.

G'Day Dougwe,

We used the park as it was near our Daughter at Carrum Downs, and she warned us about going into Dandenong at the time, so we know where you're coming from. The park doesn't appear to have permanents and has a pretty good turnover of clients. But as I said I understand (now) where you were coming from with your statement. The park is also very popular with people picking up their new Jayco Vans as it's just down the road.

Regards,

Mike.

As much as it pains me to suggest it, how about Rochester. Train to Melbourne, all the services and a great little park.

How's that for "negativity"

At this time of the year when kids are at school some of the foreshore parks on the Mornington Peninsular could be considered.

Second vote for Werribee South. It's a gem of a spot on the coast and very close to Melb CBD yet it seems rural as it is in the market garden area just past the old Point Cook RAAF Base (top quality Air Force Museum still operating at the Base). There are two CV parks there - you will be surprised at how good this spot is.

Third vote for a C.P. in Werribee South B&B,  We stayed there a few years back and found it a great spot, very handy to the Free-Way which takes you straight into the C.B.D. in no time flat, you may get a bit of a shock at the height of the bridge into the city, to us it seemed to be miles up in the air.

You must go and see the air Museum at Point Cook while in the area, well worth the visit, there is ( or was ) a wildlife park near there as well, that is another must.
