On our prospecting forum a member has just mentioned a prospector <alone> has been missing in the Laverton/Leonora area since Wednesday last.....trust he is O.K... With regards above, members have said her ex- husband just went to Sandstone with daughter to bring the dog back......most unusual for a dog to leave its masters and head into town unless desperate for water?.......also the quad being some 500 metres from their camp is unusual in prospecting terms....one detector and GPS missing so one may have ridden out to find the other perhaps...? Hope as we all do that everything will turn out well for everyone..... With the new Minelab detectors being $10,700 basic..and very desirable commodity... even security of equipment on your person or in your vehicle, is also a new dimension we did not really have to worry about before... There is currently a murder trial underway in Nth Qld for an alleged murder of a prospector.... I've been on my own many times prospecting and only once felt vulnerable..with someone coming up on me without my knowledge......I do carry a 7' Kangaroo hide stock whip in my pack as well.....Hoo Roo

Not prospecting GF, but I've been camped solo in some pretty remote places and the thought had crossed my mind when there that if someone did me in while there it would be ages before anyone found me if at all.
This was years before GPS/Beacons, mobile phones and satellite phones.......
I hope they find the missing people alive and well you mentioned.
IT HAS been four months since Jennie Kehlet disappeared yet police have been unable to find any trace of the missing prospector.
Now they are expanding their search in a bid to find any trace of her, however they do not expect to find her alive.
Ms Kehlet went missing, along with her husband, Raymond, in WAs northern Goldfields in April.
The pair from Beverley were novice prospectors and were in the midst of their first gold digging expedition away from home when they disappeared.
Tragically, more than three weeks after they were last seen, Mr Kehlets remains were found at the bottom of a 12-metre deep disused mine shaft about 30km away from their campsite near the Sandstone Caravan Park.
But how Mr Kehlet ended up on the bottom of the mineshaft as well as the whereabouts of his wife still remains a mystery.
In a bid to uncover what happened to the couple, WA Police announced today they were expanding the search area. They just dont hold out any hope of finding Ms Kehlet alive.
Cheers - John
