It certainly does matter, duplicate posting confuses the heck out of search engines, fills the site with confusing and repeated content and ultimately if allowed to go unchecked will turn a forum into a chat room.
This forum has been the subject of a lot of duplication of late, I'm unsure why people have so much trouble working out exactly where to post, it's a simple and sensible thing to post in the appropriate place.
Think about an alphabetical home filing/computer system designed to keep your affairs in order, file things incorrectly and when you want the info it ain't where you expected it to be.
I'm willing to bet that the random posters among us also have a a devil of a job locating computer files when they need them, I can see em now, tearing their hair out looking for that important document they know is somewhere on the hard drive.
Post titles also matter, as in the title of this thread (does it really matter) gives no clue to the content of the thread, if the title reflects the content it makes life so much easier for the search engine.

The majority are "doing their best", not necessarily computer experts, like myself, can't be bothered reading hours of threads to check duplications, not obsessed by the forums, and are mostly casual on-lookers.
We're all different, and view this forum in many different ways, instead of obsessing about words on a computer, go and enjoy nature, and chill with some wine.
The idea of not reposting is to have all the information in one place. If you are looking for info on WDH for example it would be good to have all that in one continuous thread as opposed to having any number of threads essentially saying the same thing. Waste of space and resources and yes you end up with a forum looking more like a chat room. Information needs to be such that it is easily available and informative. I suspect the main reason why we have many posts about the same subject is because people are too lazy to do the research and the master allows the subject to be discussed in an infinitive number of threads as opposed to collated that in one place. Let face it, how would you all feel if there was more then one 'Greynomads' forum? Or the same post in General Forum, Techie's Corner, I digress. Applying the same logic, you would be reposting your say as many times as there are forums.
As I always say 'What good are rhetorical questions'......so long as folk are posting with good will I will always read them....the occasional pompous arrogant post I give a miss and head to the 'Joking' section for light relief....
I do believe the advice given in the Tech section to be important ......and the duelling banjo type responses on all things electrical can be confusing to us novices....I just need to know what to do..rather than how it works.... Here are a few examples why advice needs to be precise/correct...imagine these characters responding to our questions and giving advice....

Yep, I agree with Larry. If you really use the forum for help and technical knowledge it helps if it is all logically grouped, to make it easier to find what you're looking for. Makes it easier to search rather than just post without searching too. But if you just treat the whole forum like a free for all chat room (like you can do in the i digress subforum) then I guess it doesn't matter.

Which is why it is important to correct misinformation..

The following was pointed out to me because I did a duplicate post:
"The majority of forum members would be quite aware of the shortcomings of the search function and probably, like me, rarely use it."
A forum is only as good as its tools, and the search function here needs work. I can tell you that is an easy fix because it's mostly settings in the Admin Panel.
My duplication post was because the search function doesn't search or display the topics title nor does it search text's in links.
Fix the SEARCH TOOL and most of the duplications will be a thing of the past.

The search tool works just fine, just did a search for "does it really matter" and it came up with this http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/p/results/ just keep in mind, rubbish in rubbish out.
It's the indiscriminate posting and poor spelling that confuses the heck out of it.

You think??? Search the term "Gibb River" and you won't find my post or the one that Vic posted. Why???? Because it doesn't search or display the Title of the post. I rest my case!

Try Remote Gibb River, it's there, as I said it works if you know how to use it.

No idea! who the heck is Vic, does he have a user name?
Far be it for me to tell an expert like yourself how to find it.

For all the people complaining about double post and poor spelling this has all been done before, just enter search double posts and read your complaints in past posts. Why are you double posting?
