Lakes Entrance has many old, tired and run down caravan parks which are generally speaking often overcrowded with holiday makers. Rvs are jammed in so tightly and sites so tiny that you can't even swing a cat. (not that we regularly do that sort of thing)
Every time we have stayed at Lakes, we swear it'll be the last. That's a shame, because the town has much to like. A good overnight stop could well be just the thing to have us reconsider. Bring it on.
We used to go there only in the off season to avoid the crowds. The fishing is still ok through winter and you can visit places without screaming kids.
One of my favourite places Lakes Entrance and has been for many many moons. I have also had my say on the link.
I have only recently started to enjoy Show Grounds and wonder why all Councils/Shires don't open them up when not being used to generate some income in the down times. The few I have now stayed at seem to be being looked after by the people staying there so don't see that as a problem.
Way to go Lakes Entrance. A free camp is a great start.

Exactly our thoughts, but I have a vague recollection of a newish one on the way in from the 'north'. We rarely stay at LE on our trips down the coast, even though it is a beautiful place. Just don't like their CPs.

Stayed at East Beach Caravan park in Lakes Entrance last month, expensive but very nice park with large sites. Had driven round the town checking out all CP before coming to this CP, most were so crowded. Local told has that when petrol was so expensive the CP had converted to cabins, now a lot of their cabins are empty and have caravaners they have no room to accommodate. So a really good move for the town.
