New van's first 'checkup'

Hi campers, just got our first brand new van couple of weeks ago and we see it has a 3 month compulsory 'check' - which is not free...  Is this worth doing or just a ripoff? thanks, Jay-Jay

I depends o what is done and what it costs.
was this condition disclosed before final payment ??
what are the consequences of not doing it ??
if they are only doing repairs then it is not a payment I think is necessary

Just make sure they do the service properly, especially brakes and bearings.

With all of our vans we have been told to have the first service done after a thousand or so k's.

You should not need it after only 3 months

Make sure it is not a condition of the warranty.

Yes the checkup is part of the warranty but was not mentioned to us on pickup.  We read it in the pile of paperwork they gave us...  When we questioned it, we were told  we should have been told about it...  Jay-Jay

My first service on new van at 1,000klm required new wheel bearings as "were worn out". I suggested there must have been a problem with the original installation but was told bearing are not covered under warranty and 1,000klm is reasonable life as vans are hard on bearings. Not as hard as no grease which I suspect. Manufacturer later installed additional equipment at no charge as  compensation.

Bottom line the vans needs checking very early after delivery and yes it can be a rip off. The new owner does the quality control now days.
