Flicking through the Camps 8 I noticed that the freecamp site at Clairview was not listed. Research established that the the Issac Regional Council has closed it down under pressure from the local caravan park and " rate payers" paying for the very infrequent clean up of the site.
I emailed the Issac Regional Council expressing my displeasure to the closure, citing the lack of choice to stop and stay over night and the amount of travellers who stop off to support local fund raising stall that is operated by the residents, the proceeds going to local charities.
At this stage a reply has not been forth coming.
In my view this is the thin edge of the wedge to the powerful lobby of caravan parks shutting out freecamping sites.
If you feel inclined, email the Issac Regional Council expressing your thoughts on the shutting freecamping sites within that shire.
This issue has been posted before on the forum ,When I was in the north there were posts in the local newspaper and local TV news that the local didn't believe the Grey nomads weren't spending much money in the area of putting a stain on water and sewerage and cost of cleaning up after them , Has mention before the Clairview caravan park is mostly always full . But we have stop at Waverley creek Rest Area main road stop between Clairview and St Lawrence turn off.
