With friends we have just got home from three months in Tassie with our caravan. ( loved it) I am concerned however, about some of the reviews or comments some are able to post on line, such as the Wiki camps app. We stayed in bush camps to pub backyards to caravan parks and found nothing that we were not unduly happy with. What is concerning tho is that some travellers seem to want to be treated like royalty every where they go, pay little for it, and if things are not to their liking are able to go on line and leave disparaging remarks condemning the owner of an establishment or a town with out ever having to disclose their identity. I wonder how many travellers would like to see their names being bandied around on the net as a whinger, or rude, or dirty, or arrogant with out the poster having to disclose his identity. So I ask of you if you are posting on line, bagging some one out, , give your full name and address so as they can have the chance to reply to rebutt or tell how they found your behaviour. In other words think about it first before hitting the keyboard.
I agree Dazz, but it will never change.
I must say I tend to gloss over reviews that go overboard either way. The best reviews will tell you the good and bad with a final summary. Mobs like "Product Review" will endorse your review if you send a copy of the receipt for the product/service and also give the company concerned the right to answer. This gives the review authenticity unlike some reviews in Wiki camps.
Over the years we've stayed in hundreds of van parks and free camps and they all had positives and negatives.
Regards
I totally agree with the with the you daz49. It seems to me that some people want five star quality all for free. We do not take much notice of those sort of comments. We are in Tasmania at present and enjoying it also
Personally I Love the way Wiki Camps is set up. Ditto with the extreme comments but if there is a lot of negative comments I usually steer clear of them. I view advertising as socially sanctioned Lying. Just Look at McDonalds advertising and what arrives on your plate! A friendly attitude costs nothing. I like the idea that we finally have a medium (besides word of mouth)
spot on Santa........you will find a person on one day saying how great the place was(free or CP) and the very next day someone else slagging it off. We read all the comments, especially those made within, say, the last 6 months and then decide. But wikicamps is still great.
BTW Have a look at Woomera CP in SA comments and see what people and the manager says. In hospitality, you'll always have unhappy/bitchy customers and on the day you try to put it right and smile (even if you swear as you walk off). Not a good look from this Manager. We'll be staying there in a week, so it will be interesting (only for one night on the way to that Opal hole place further north lol)
We will try to give an honest and fair comment about this CP once we've been there

I agree with the comments made, in the early days of Wiki I had listed our property as being available for 48 hour stop overs, with conditions that people contact us 24 hour prior to ensure availability, some one edited the phone number and condition, and unfortunately we arrived home to find a couple of MHs parked up. Admin of WIKI allowed this clutch in the system (not sure that it is fixed now) but we removed our listing. Have had it placed within this forum for few years now and have met some great folk regular users of WIKI will recognise habitual abusers. Happy to sign this as Bob MacAulay from Tassie

That's why I prefer Badgers Australian Caravan Park Reports, the reports are vetted and any that appear out of character are queried with the reporter. If they are way out then they are rejected out of hand.

Dazz, Wiki is only as good as we user's make it really, as you would know. Maybe just drop a line to the Wiki Admin and them let them know what sites you feel are not correct in the description. I have and it does work. I have found a few spots that are listed two or three times under different names but are in fact the same spot so let Admin know and after them checking into it they deleted so only one was listed.

Some people aren't happy unless they are complaining.
We'll read a lot of the reviews and weight up the pluses & minuses.
It irks me when people use Wiki to bag other campers or things that haven't anything to do with the camp.
" Dog people. Keep your dogs out of the toilets".
" Noisy campers kept us awake".
Not really relevant to the camp.
We use Wikicamps regularly and realise that there are some out there who have a totally unrealistic level of reality we generally consider all comments given over the past 6 months and also look at pictures others have put up we will continue to use this great site also regularly cross check with Badger.

Happily doing both to the Max.
Life is like a camera, focus on what's important & you will capture it every Time
Im doing a Dougwee and going off topic slightly.............since wiki recently got a new version, we find the pics are out of focus. On the previous version when you opened a pic, it would be out of focus and then adjust to a clear pic within a second or so, but not any more for me
I didn't have to download the new version, it just auto updated
Anyone else having this problem before I email Russ (the webmaster) - I know they are still sorting out a few glitches

For what it is worth we had a couple of nights at the Woomera Caravan Park last year and can only say how nice it was and we were treated really well by the C/P manager and staff, so well that we have put it down as a must stay park on our next trip through there.
