I am using this thread because I like to digress...why so few posts ? Lots of views yet hardly any posts why is it so?
On other forum sites there are about the same number of views but many more posts, are the digressions too far away from what interests us or ??? any thoughts...
I am hesitant to post in the 'I digress' thread because of what I perceive as personal attacks. They are still evident in other threads i.e. blitz on Newell Hwy. I persist because I know there are quite a few nice people on here.
People post items they think are of interest and then others sometimes try to make them look stupid or score points. If someone says something that is wrong or ill-informed then there is no need to denigrate them - there are always two sides to every story. I'd have thought that by our stage of life we would have learn't that being nice costs nothing.
That's my take of it anyway but I still have great faith in our fellow travellers.

This sub-Forum is as it states "I Digress" being used mainly to digress from matters of interest outside of the normal Caravan and MH topics that are provided for in other sub-forums. Some use it, like myself sometimes, to post a joke or funny pictures, but like all Forums, they are up and down. There will always be negative postings, so if they are not of interest to you, bypass them. There is a lot of valuable information on this Forum from some very experienced people. Many have left particularly over a subject I will not bring up again, and also for other reasons of their own, but there are also many new Members, and it takes a while for new members to become comfortable.

Not so strange and not confined to the I digress threads. As a new member, I notice what seems to be an effort by some of the more senior members to ensure no opinion that differs from theirs to get any air time.

If I may "Dare" to suggest a name change for one of the sub-Form, and that is the title of "Techie's Corner". It suggests to me that we have a table of 3 or 4 old member experts discussing Nuclear physics or similar over in the corner, and woes is any member who interrupts their discussion with a stupid (in their eyes) question. I had the same feeling as Iza above, when first posting, and now tend to go to the general forum hoping to get a more varied response to some of the questions, or just post and in Techies and see what happens.
A title like " Those questions of a more technical nature" or similar may make that sub-Forum sound friendlier.
But this is my opinion and I am not necessarily correct.

Good Luck.
To be honest I didn't see any personal attacks in that thread. Maybe a couple where more information was asked for or verification of the story. Its not much point posting information that is a tad vague. I think some people also get their nose out of joint a bit when someone points out that their information and advice may not necessarily be correct. This often happens in Techies Corner, where the result can be anything from mild confusion for the OP, to total disaster if the OP follows such mis-information. I think that people, who do get their nose out of joint like this, should be a bit more accepting of of the fact they may not be 100% correct, and that any attempt to clarify the matter is not necessarily a personal attack on them. Also, when reading someone's reply, we don't always interpret what they say the same way they as intended it. Without facial expression, and knowing what kind of character the person is, we can get the wrong impression.

I certainly don't see that. I do see a lot of differing opinions, which is only natural. I do see a lot of Senior members giving good advice and passing on experiences to newer members. With Techies Corner, there are a few qualified people who express their views and give advice, and I've noticed a few differing opinions in that area.. Regarding matters of 240 volt electricity, I now refuse to give advice as these problems should be referred to a Licensed Electrician, not played with by amateurs without the proper knowledge and experience. Notwithstanding your comments Iza, there maybe a few from time to time who try to promote their own opinions, but it's very rare.

There are a few who come across as abrupt and rude when 99% of the time that wasn't intended. Some of type short posts because of the rumitiss in the joints. There are only 1-2 who are knowingly intent on being offensive or nasty and you will find that most ignore their comments or new posts and they eventually get the message.
Please...........new folk are the life blood of this Forum. Don't lurk in the background and just read (you only need to look at each post to see how many have just read it only) - jus because you are new to this site doesn't mean you don't have value to offer others or the rest of us aren't interested...............we are!!!!
C'mon, its only if many people respond in a negative way to your new post that you need to consider how you say, rather than what you say............
The blitz on Newall HW is an example - many of us really appreciated that - we just needed a more precise location (Im from WA and don't even know what State the HW is in). Info like this is invaluable to just about all of us - don't hold back !!!

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
hi all. I like the forum and enjoy all the different points of views also
but I must I left school at 14 and im no scholar
but do comment as best I can
so give all a little leeway
I can remember the same thing happening about this time last year. Got very quiet.
Think it might have a lot to do with nomads heading out on the road for winter. Don't have the same time or access to the forum.
I'm a member of a few forums in the USA and Australia, mostly to do with my hobby, the same thing is happening on these forums, members are absent from posting.Maybe the Aussie members are preparing for their trip up north and the USA members are out side shoveling snow,I don't have an easy answer but I'm sure when winter sets in ,it will get busy again. One of the forums I visit has a motto......Keep it nice and be pleasant......it's good advice and for those that can't ,perhaps be Tolerant....For those who can't be pleasant or nice don't seem to be on the the members list for long,it seems to work.................cheers Peter

Hi guys. When I was working we used to havetrouble with emails because without facial expressions, a sentence or paragraph commenting on some topoc could be easily misread as insulting or rude. When in fact it may have been intended as jest or a light hearted comment. Imagine going up to someone you know and patting them on thenback and with a big smile saying. Hi you old ba÷ta!d. Without the verbal clues and physical affection, it can be insulting. We all stuff it up occasionally without meaning to. Just my thoughts. Cheers Phil

You have it in a nutshell there Phil. I guess that's why they invented "smilies".......maybe if they were used more often?
