working

Hi All, its been awhile but we are back. Just got a question if anyone can answer for me it would be appreciated.

If working while on a DSP and you are getting rent, and electricity free does this count as income with Center link? (while getting reduced wages in lieu of)

Thanks

Uncle Wombat

Gday...

I would not rely on any advice provided on this sort of information from members of a public forum.

There is only one place to find out .... Centrelink. Make an appointment with their Financial Services Officer who will provide unbiased (and helpful) advice on such matters.

cheers - John

The first person I would talk to is the person who was given you free rent and electricity , You may get this person into trouble for doing what they are doing you may not be even paying tax your call.

be aware too that if you claim rent, and you need to have the appropriate Centrelink form with your landlords or childs name on it, they supply that info to the ATO and the rent this person did (or didn't receive) is treated as taxable income payable by them. That includes power etc

If you are getting rent and electricity subsidy and a disability support pension i would have thought you were incapable of being able to work? Not meaning to be unkind but the weight on my shoulders feels fairly heavy.

I thank you for your replies, to Redtails I  have always been a worker until my accident I am able to do 10 hours a week, and have my pension cut for doing so. I will be 64 years old this April and still able to do my bit not like some. I have always paid my taxes, so your remarks were a bit unkind

Bruce and Bev, I thank you for your reply much appreciated I do not claim rent assistance. I only asked question as I thought someone else may have had the same experience, I will be going into Center Link though to clarify this.

Thanks

Uncle Wombat
