Miniature wooden replicas

Mr D is at is again, this time he is reproducing an old bullock drawn timber jinker, 1:12 scale.  We went up to Gleneden Bullock Team near Gayndah a few weeks ago, and Rohan allowed us to measure and photograph his jinker.

I will post photos as it progresses......

Ah hah! You had me going there for a minute.
With the first post I thought Mr D was moving away from matchsticks into something else. Balsa maybe?

Then I thought to save one of your last photos so I can really zoom in and see the detail. They ARE matchsticks. All glued together to make larger pieces and then shaped.

How clever is that?
well done Mr D.

Lots more photos please Mrs D. I'm really interested in how hubby is doing this work and would like to learn.

Jim

Hi Grandad5, have you had a look at the other thread that myvan has hijacked

There are two finished products there, a cobb and co coach and a tip tray buggy, both in a museum at Gatton

I'm waiting to see how he creates the miniature bullocks.

Actually Troopy, we saw a miniature replica in the Timber Museum in Wondai (wish we had taken a pic of it).  The 12 bullocks were all individually carved, each one with it's own face.  Mr D does not do carving.

Yes, I have. Although I only skimmed page 2. Shouldn't have obviously because I just re-read it and the tip about gluing matchsticks together was clearly stated.

I'm more than a little interested in this pastime. The more photos you can convince Mr D to share the better for me anyway.

Cheers

Jim

Progressing well, he has become quite creative with some of his media.  The turntable was cut out of an old frying pan!

EDIT:  Still working on the wheels, back axle is the next project.

Latest update picture.  Still pretty basic, but at least now you can see it is taking shape.  Phone beside it shows scale.

Your work really is talented and interesting Dunmowing. Top class stuff.

How about your next posting is started as a new subject, maybe with a link to this page, so it's a bit easier to follow, so it's not lost to those like me who also find it interesting but only pop in occasionally?

Thanks Chicken Strangler.  Was planning to create a new thread once this one was "off the page"  Thanks for the suggestion.
