water tanks and pumps

Hi.I have been having tank filling probs for ever.Had a tank explode at the baffle, reversed it,plugged breather, glued baffle and fitted upside down.On filling from side of van, over flow indicated all 3 tanks full. Not the case.Maybe s held water, one being the repaired one.All 3 tanks are in series but repaired tank would not allow water out.I have disconnect other tanks and fed repaired one direct to pump.Water comes out but when faucet turned off, pump keeps running.Shurflo pump.Any ideas guys?

Sounds like you might have an air block in your system and the pump cannot pressurize , have you turned on all your taps , shower , etc for a minute and checked that they all have flow ??

How have you been filling your tanks.

(1) With a hose at mains pressure connected direct to tank or with a hose running via gravity into fill point.

(2) How can an upside down tank fill from the bottom and deliver water from the top work.

If i can fill the tank at least i can get half of water.Currently further probs.Only front tank fills via van side, just had a shower, wife goes in,no water.Pump running. No water comes from any tap.Air coming out and water tries but just a  dribble\or two. With the main side filler hose, should it be of equal height to all tanks as only front one fills?I have just about had enough.

An air pocket on the pressure side of the pump will give you those symptoms. But so will an air leak on the feed side. Sounds to me your pump is drawing air, possibly through a breather. Of course I can't see your setup, but I know that my pump will draw air from an empty tank rather than water from a full tank. Something to do with physics, the bit I got wrong at school. Your drawbar tap is almost gravity feed so it's no surprise it's the only one delivering water.

I agree with KevinC regarding the pump sucking air as the most likely problem. I would be having a look under the van at the arrangement of both the fill lines and the draw lines to the pump. If all tanks are on same level and not all fill maybe a problem with venting on one or more tanks.

I had a similar problem. One tank 3 quarters full and the other one empty. Yet both filled at same time. The pump started sucking air from empty tank rather than water from full tank. Its weight. Air is lighter and the water wont lift. Found that the inlet join from the pump to the two tanks was centered over the fronttank. Thus the pump took water from the nearest source first. So we rejoined the t piece equidistant between the two tanks. Problem solved however the lines from each tank should have gates on them so that each tank can be isolated if needed. Not if this is exactly your issue but hope this helps.
cheers
Phil
