Set off from Ban Ban Springs by 7am heading initially for Eidsvold where I wanted to ascertain that the pharmacy there carried the medication needed for my 6 monthy injection for bone density. Hard enough to get to Eidsvold from Wuruma without finding that it is unavailable. Ended up having to get to register with another doctor to get the prescription so that it will be ready later in the month.
Also wanted to contact the P O to give them my number for when the glasses arrive, then on to Wuruma. Had the most frustrating time with internet reception, the long antenna wouldn't get reception down by the dam so I went up to the higher ground near the toilets and couldn't get reception there either but ended up setting up camp and looking at the problem again tomorrow. Preparing this post on a word page ready for copying.
The little phone that connects to the antenna works brilliantly, I can use it all the time it is connected. That is a plus and I have received a couple of messages incoming whilst I had the internet unit connected. I might have to buy a better phone that has the connection 'cos this one will access the 3G internet although there is little I can do with the connection. Tried swapping the sim card with the smart phone without success.
Cruising Cruise (John and Maryolena?) are camped next door so that is good and we spent an interesting happy hour with their other next door neighbours. Up to now the awning is set up together with the anti flap kit and side wall, this time I have extended the awning by using the front shade connected to poles. Last time I did that here I had an unfortunate experience with cows becoming entangled in the support ropes.
Tomorrow will see me setting up the external shower on the side of the bus together with the shower curtains bought whilst at Boonah. The kayak will get pumped up and carried down to the dam, I have spoken to campers by the dam and they will keep an eye on it. It is not a good idea to leave it in the sun 'cos it will build up pressure and potentially burst so I plan to use the tarp previously used to keep the wood pile dry at Greens.
Got a bit more done as the pics show but the best news is that after having a talk with Rod (Rover) I now have the internet. It is very slow and intermittent maybe the pics will have to wait but I will try.Can't pump up the kayak duh duh didn't read the new pump instructions which say that it has to be charged up to 10 hours before using and I had 240 volts laid on.
Back to the old question, how to handle updates when I am camped for a length of time in one place and there may not be much to report on? Any ideas? John
Hi John, You're looking good in a great spot. Guess where we are. We are parked up down near the back gate at our friend's place in Redlynch. You know - where you visited us. Another interesting report. Thank you, especially from those of us who are stationary for a time and for whatever reason.
What makes your reports so interesting is that you photograph and note the ordinary daily life as a grey nomad. I believe that the lion's share of the enjoyment and meaning we get from life comes from the mundane, for instance sharing an impromptu bbq with people and not only friends.
Returning to your question, it really doesn't have to be anything 'significant' or 'touristy beautiful' or new. What is always worth reporting and you do it so well, is the usual, but your and other experience of it. Which is why readers gobble up your photos with the campsite - not purposely rearranged, posed or airbrushed for the photo, just real life.
By the time the clock passes the mid-mark it is what many prefer. I've seen enough buffed-up, glossy, always posed and superficial travelogues with carefully crafted comments.
Snippets with 'Hey this was today' are beaut. That is real life and worth the post.
