Why do people talk in the wrong threads.
Permalink Closed

Although I do not participate in the forum as much as I once did it peeves me when I read threads and people are talking of topic in the wrong place .You should read the threads and then talk in the thread pertaining to what it is you want to say. An example is the rules and introductory thread where parties have been talking about their travels for the last few days.

Anyone who wants to join up thinks this is the norm.I believe we have a good forum if it is used the right way.

I have had my bitch for now and will be passing my complaint on to Cindy.

I f you wish to have a go at me please do as I have big shoulders and can handle it.

Alan the Mongrel.

Because people are human and sometimes don't get it right. Far more important things than wrong threads.

Gidday Alan, I too don't get on here as often as i used to, !! I agree with what you say, ! The old members should know better, and the New Members, Learn from what the Old Members do !! hmm I don't think Cindy will have much success ! as she has put up the rules section, everyone SHOULD read and follow them, and and Cindy has Not got the time to sit there all day, telling members to follow the rules, !!  hmm

As an after thought Cindy, if you see this, Have you ever thought of getting a couple of ''assistant moderators'' to assist you, !! they could handle all the Mundane little problems, and remind members to stay on track, and follow the rules and guidelines, !!   smile just a thought !!

Go for it Alan ,however I feel that most new folk have tunnel vision ! that is to say they never bother to view previous topics on a similar subject eg.napisan etc . My personal gripe is when someone asks about an item that clearly would be aided if it was assisted with a photo of the relevant problem to wit ... some clip that is bung or the drain that runs up hill etc .I realise that the first time you place a picture is a worry but after that its a breeze and I for one am the first to help if I can . This is truly a wonderful forum ,but help us to help you by giving us as much info as you can .I myself have gained a wealth of knowledge from my peers on this forum. Cheers John

I've given up reminding people to use the right threads Alan.  The Forum has gone way downhill compared to what it used to be like.  So many good people have left, and the Newbies don't seem to care about doing the right thing.  I doubt if some of them even bother to read the rules.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I agree in part bigA. Are you being a "mongrel" mate biggrinbiggrin I am guilty of 'only' sometimes going  image.jpg   but only when KFT makes me biggrin.  Mmmm, am I now  image.jpg   (you were right Frank biggrin).

I think this forum is great, yes there has been some very down times but  weather them we have and we all continue on. Some, including me have a bit of fun, some, like me can be serious when needed, some, unlike me are very techie and contribute and help out where needed. Some, like me again do regular updates of our travels for whatever reasons. I know in my case I have been contacted by PM, email, phone calls and face to face by people telling me to "not change" they love how I contribute to this great forum, especially my updates that I post in "General".

Why do I post in "General" and not "Solo"  Well, even though I am a Solo full time traveller I have always posted in "General" and will continue to do so. Yeoleven, John posts his updates and contributes in "Solo" so I think it is good to have our type of posts in both. I know that is not what you are talking about though Alan.

I, like a few others have a bit of fun on this great forum but even we can be serious when need be. I have asked for help/advise and received it, I have also given help/advise on various occasions.

Now, to the moderator thing that my good mate and buddy Dazy boy suggested. I must admit that I too have thought of contacting Cindy about the same thing however, after a little thought I decided not too, why I hear you ask?  Well there are a few people on this forum that I wouldn't like telling me what I can and can't post, no names mentioned. I am sure others would agree.

Shut the front gate!  I'm outa here. (no not the forum)......I heard that down the back!

Am I still "on topic" confuseconfuse

Perhaps we could have a thread just for general whinging, complaining and comparing everything done today in a negative light compared to those wonderful days of yore.

Perhaps we could have ranks or status based on how long you have been a forum member, sort of like a military discipline.

If you have been posting for say three years then your opinion is worth much more than some poor fool that only bought his caravan last week.

We will all know our place then.

And some wonder why a lot of people visit often but never post - I can offer a suggestion.

Who really cares. If I want to follow a post I'll look at it where ever it is.

I'm sure some posts are only put up in an attempt to create angst.

Live & let live. Get out & enjoy the great Aus.

Cheers Pete

Yeah I have to agree with Mongrel. People seem to post all over the shop these days No point being subtle about it either, it obviously doesn't work.

It's not pedantic. That's the whole reason for having the different sections in the forum, so you can look for the type of information you are searching for. You might as well have just one section heading called "All & Sundry" otherwise. furious

Does it really matter if a photograph of Fred and Beryl and their eighteen year old ****er spaniel standing outside the caravan at Grong Grong showground appears in the middle of a "techies" thread on dismantling gearboxes.

Lets face it, the planets still stay aligned and society as we know it does not self destruct.

I enjoy reading through the various threads and find it a bit of fun to find out what others are doing or learning a few handy hints. If it is in the wrong place then so be it. If I want to be one dimensional and completely structured then I will sell my van and go an enlist in the army or find a job in a bank. It is a just a forum about enjoying travelling around, not an encyclopaedia on life.

hmmhmmhmm  Or even better, !! maybe we could have a roster system !!  confuseconfuse When a NEW member Signs up ! Then the Member with the Longest time spent on the Forum, MUST RESIGN, cry  !! Then we could have a continuous supply of posts like the one above, ! and the person who bought his first van 2 weeks ago, ! Can be advised by the person who bought His first Van 4 weeks ago, !! smile

hmm And this is one of the reasons 'WHY' the Forum has lost that old magic hmm  At this point, There are 17 posts on this subject, !!

7 of those posts Support, following the Rules, smile  -- 10 of the posts Encourage Breaking the rules hmm

But don't listen to me, I have been here to long ! smilesmile

You can remind until the cows come home Sheba, wont make a scrap of difference.

Interesting you chose to ignore Dazren's suggestion for additional moderators, trying to monitor a forum such as this single handed is quite a task, a couple more level headed moderators would keep the forum in order, I've been involved with quite a few forums over many years and have to say as far as posting discipline is concerned this one is by far the most chaotic.

A couple of additional moderators with the power to relocate/delete, misplaced/inappropriate posts would solve the problem quick smart.smile

Yes, the place certainly needs whipping in to shape. Perhaps we could have two forums, one for the "inner circle" of senior posters where the "old magic" could be summoned up again and another for the "newbies" and chaotic types that dare to question the old guard. I don't know what the place is coming to, out of control forums, wrong posts in wrong threads, this cannot be tolerated.

Hi everybody. Thanks for all your comments on this subject. I understand that it can be frustrating sometimes if posts aren’t made in the most appropriate sections. As always, I ask people to try to post in the right areas for the convenience and accessibility of all users. However, I do understand that this is not an exact science and sometimes a post could be suited to any number of sections. All we can do is try! In a forum this size, not everything will always run as smoothly as we would sometimes like but I ask you all to try to be patient and to try to enjoy the forum for what it is. It really is supposed to be just a place where people can share and learn ...  and maybe have fun! As always, if anybody has any specific concerns about a post or poster, the best thing to do is PM me and I will try to sort something out.
