Went to a funeral of a dear friend yesterday, he is a RAAF mate I haven't seen for over 40 years. Sadly his mum died of old age, so goes the circle of life they say.
Purpose of this story is he (my mate) is 3 years younger than me, has had 2 heart attacks, a stroke and now has Parkinsons. Oh BTW he smokes like a steam train. Is there a parity there? Or is this just a coincidence?
Him and I hitch hiked almost around Australia, in the days when a military uniform was respected, we hardly had to sleep under the stars.
Im never going to complain again about my stinking arthritis. BTW I dont smoke anymore, gave it up at 26. I'm now approaching (way too fast) 65
Mortality, thou art a B1tch!

Phil. A sad fact of life is that your mates and rellies die while the young ones (your kids and grandkids go to those things we have almost forgotten called marriages - although these are less common nowadays).
Remember your mate for all the good times you had together - he came through a War that many young men and women died in.
Give him a silent toast when youre having a beer and don't forget him :)

I know how you feel, Phil. Have lost a few good Raafie mates of mine too. Just makes me want to live life to the fullest while I still can. That's why I'm planning to travel very soon, to catch up on most of my old Raafie mates, before we all kark it.
