Sunday 1 March 2015 - 1:11 PM
If you live in an area bounded by Perth to Hyden to Southern Cross to Carnegie to Telfer to Nanutarra to Overlander Roadhouse to Lancelin you should take action and stay safe with the start of severe thunderstorms.
This includes people in, near and between Newman, Meekatharra, Dalwallinu and York and surrounding areas. This includes parts of the Perth metropolitan area north east of a line Yanchep to Bullsbrook.
This is not unusual weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous.
THUNDERSTORM DETAILS: As at 12.21pmm on 1 March 2015 the Bureau of Meteorology advises that there is a risk of severe thunderstorms in the area for the remainder of Sunday. At midday satellite and radar imagery showed thunderstorms in parts of the warning area.
Radar imagery also shows an area of thunderstorms near a line from Gingin to Northam which is continuing to cause heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. This area is slowly extending southeast and may impact York for the next few hours. 26.8mm of rainfall has been recorded at Gingin Airport to about midday today. Storms may be accompanied by damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding.
UPDATE 12.30AM MON 2/3/15
ROAD CLOSURES:

Due to recent heavy rainfall extreme caution is advised to all traffic at floodways on the following roads; Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road from Yalgoo to Mt Magnet Great Northern Highway both directions from Kumarina to Meekatharra Great Northern Highway from Mt Magnet to Wubin

From Coast to Coast, We'll see it all.......One Day
We went up to Lancelin this morning. a bit overcast at home (at Seabird) and could see rain clouds on the horizon but it was quite warm and didn't really look like we were going to any rain out of it. Left home at 8.30am, ran into a light shower around Ledge Point but it was overcast and quite warm in Lano. Got home at 11.30 am to find 50ml in the rain gauge.!!~ Left the van hatch open so interior of van is wet as is everything in annex ,had the windows open in that too!!. The tanks are overflowing, the fish ponds are over flowing as well so everything has had a real good water. Had to return grandie back to her parents so just shut the doors to deal with when we got home. Now heading home so hopefully there was no more whilst we were gone.
Sunday it really bucketed down round Yanchep and Gingin area - it was very slow driving (we were out in it). Minor surface flooding - enough to make ute aquaplane on the roads if you didn't look for the sheets of water.
It cleared up by lunchtime and we were back to fine again. This morning 7am, Monday, there are a few clouds about Yanchep, but theyre moving off slowly with the run out again
We badly needed that rain even if it did make things bad for the long weekend holiday makers

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
Bit windy up here this morning but no sign of rain or storms. We didn't bother closing the van and annex up when we took the grandie back to Carramar and it was pretty much dried out by the time we got back.
