Yes, with the proviso to take it SLOW! I have seen quite large vans on that road and I think that it is better than the Clyde Mountain. The road down from Moss Vale is actually slightly better than from up the other side of Kangaroo Valley to Nowra. (The other side goes up, then down to the flat lands. Both are pretty steep, winding and rather narrow.)
As an aside, just as you arrive at the Kangaroo Valley township there is a small shop on the right with a sign on it advertising 'The World's Best Pies.' While I'll leave it to others to judge whether they are or not the times I have eaten them I found them pretty good.
I agree with Murray, I've travelled this road quite often, just take it slow and spare your brakes as much as possible, low gear.
As for the pies, I think they should change the sign to read "The World's Dearest Pies".
I have done this one in Miss Daisy, quite by accident actually, as often happens with me. It was winding and steep in places, but Miss Daisy handled it beautifully. The road does narrow in spots but I did not encounter too much traffic so it was all good. If I can do it then you can.
I went up from Nowra, then onto the countryside from there.
These are view from right up the top. Cannot remember the name of the lookout, but spectacular views to coastline.

Hi Nelly.
As a local from Nowra I agree with other posts it is steep and winding. IMO the pies are not famous and are too expensive. As Shekon said the view's are worth a look from on top of Cambewarra mountain, there is lookout and what could be best described as a tea room.
Oh and keep in mind that this road is used by big semi-trailers so be carefull around tight bends.
Regards
Ashley
Hi Nelly and all. Just done this trip from Mittagong to Nowra in our M/h which is 15 metres long as we tow a trailer. It is narrow, steep and very winding but steady steady and no problems. Use low gear as some of the short steep sections are deceptive. I made numerous UHF calls to alert any oncoming heavies and it went smoothly except for when the navigator said she could smell the fairly new brake pads getting a mite warm, The biggest hazard I encountered was the imbeciles overtaking in the most crazy places and never mind the double lines or oncoming vehicles. Great scenery but recommend stopping to view it. Cheers.
I found the going ok in my motor home Nelly, letting everything pass my slow passage when safe to do so. The time of day (late morning) and mid week, there was really not that much traffic to worry about.
Wish I'd have seen Bundeela Camp Site Hylda&Jon, thanks for the photos.
Visited the lookout a couple of weeks ago and noted that the café/restaurant/tea rooms are closed and IMO unlikely to re-open in the near future...........views over the coastal landscape are great and you can almost see NZ on a clear day.
Roads are well surfaces but narrow with tight corners and plenty of trucks, so be careful if towing or using a MH/Fiver.
