Who saw this episode of Australian Story on the Leyland Brothers, see;

What an inspiration these brothers who came to Australia as the children of Ten Pound Pom immigrants and with their wives gave us a wonderful insight into the Australian outback and camping.

Very sad how things ended up for all of them and a good message here on not to leave your travels too late, do it while you can and have your health.

Thanks for posting this very interesting story, VIC,

I remember watching every episode as they appeared on T.V.

they were very popular and must have inspired many thousands of people to get out there and see this great big Country.

Who could forget their very popular jingle  " UP THE LEYLAND BROTHERS"

So sad to hear of Mikes demise, a true adventurer.

I grew up with them and Malcolm Douglas on TV. Those shows inspire me to travel around this amazing country.

I just hope we stop selling it out and giving it away so our grandkids can as well.

And the theme song was sung by the Provost Bros I think and Muz is right it is "ask".

"VERY GOOD MURRAY' I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice my saying.

"UP THE LEYLAND BROTHERS", was a saying we used to use while working in the North-West back in the mid 60's,

This saying was repeated on many occasions as we travelled the very rough roads in the region, it referred to the Brothers who had been over the same roads and had made it look easy to travel on, I can tell you, these roads were no fun driving a heavy truck with-out power steering and no air conditioning, with the old temp hovering around the high 30's into the 40's on most days.  plus Bull Dust in holes a foot deep was another delight we could have done with-out.

We used to joke about the Leyland brothers over the years, but when watching Aust Story you remember that it was ground breaking what they did and definately made us far more adventurous in our holidaying.

Yes, Vic, I watched the doco, brought back great memories and dreams that one day I too will be on the road.,  It was sad the brothers had a falling out.., Sad about Mike, but at least they reconciled before he died.,

Wow!

I just watched the Australian Story. What an amazing life those guys (and Gals) had. Sad to see their demise, but uplifting in it's own way too.

Many of us spend so much time accumulating stuff and forget to "stop and smell the roses". Important to get out into the playground and look for them roses biggrin

Even a greater Australian is Dick Smith.

He gives so much of his money to various charities, treats his staff so well, a great Australian adventurer - an all round GREAT GUY !!

You may have heard in the Leyland brothers doco that he gave one of them $10K (quite a sum of money then) to get back on his feet (the one still living)

Instead of knighting a German royal - how about Sir Dick Smith ?????

Just a pity our two major supermarkets don't support his Aussie made (with Aussie workers) products............

Couldn't agree more Bruce & Bev, Dick Smith would have been more appropriate.

Yes I believethat Dick would much prefer
Sir Dick Smith..........rather than
uAnd the supermarkets will not take a new line unless one is prepared to pay them a new line fee, which use to be around $5000.....20 to 25 years ago. Go figure that one.
I thin we set the alarm so as to make sure we did not miss the Leyland Bros.
Need some one like those guys to bring us up to date with all things good in our great country.
They were Legends.

For those who enjoyed the Leyland Brothers TV shows, you can watch episodes on your laptop or iPad. My son loves the show. Google for them I believe they are on YouTube.
