Getting older

Sitting here reading about Beth and her health and then there's Gary and haven't heard how he is recently and to top it off I took an Ambulance ride to hospital last Thursday with a Heart Attack and ended up with a stint in one artery and the other arteries don't look too good either, but I am alive so I have had a big win just caravan trips will probably be restricted for a while.

Wow!! glad it got sorted with a stent. I had a stent put in 18 months ago. The rest of my arteries are only 30% blocked which is normal for a never smoked 65 y/o. So, good for me to know the internal arteries condition. They reckon mine was Diabetes related after over 40 years on Insulin.

Aussie Paul. smile

Glad all os better AT. I had bypass surgery in 2010 and things improved until two weeks ago. I had a Echocardiogram ordered by a GP and sent to a Cardiologist today. Not as bad as first thought thank goodness. I just have to keep an eye on the old blood pressure a bit better.

It is very scary when you first get the news something is wrong with the old ticker AT and I tell you that for free.

Keep safe.

its so frustrating for us all that the body starts to fail, but for most of us, the brain is pretty much intact (other than memory sometimes).

I couldn't imagine having a really sharp brain and a rotten body, like Steven Hawkins (the UK scientist).

Without wishing it on myself or anyone else, I sometimes wonder if its better to get demetia and you live in an almost "dream" world.

Theres nothing wrong with being mature (aka old), but the failing body is the hardest thing to adjust to

Aussietraveller, when my partner had a heart attack in 2011, he had a stent like you, had to do 6 weeks "rehab", then the Doctors encouraged him to resume caravanning. So we left for a six-month trip and had a ball. All good still.

My mum had a heart attack and triple bypass in November - was home a couple of weeks and then had a major stroke and fractured hip - gone from living independently to now awaiting nursing home placement. Now my M-I-L has had a fall and is in hospital and ? minor stroke so changes there as well - she is also carer for her disabled son so need care for him now too. Yes, they are in their 80's but things can change in the blink of an eye.

My partner has Parkinson's and is in his 50's - well crontrolled so far so we have ordered our new ubeaut Evernew van and are planning a big trip next year.

Gotta get out there and enjoy while we can!!

I work in a hospital and see some sad sights - time doesn't last forever. Do what you can, while you can

Yes, it is a bummer getting old.
I am in the same club re the stints, and to date it has not stopped us from doing what we want. Although at 76 yrs Ican feel my selg slowing down, mainly due to my old enemy ( Arty... Arthritis).
But hey, we both woke to another great day.

Must have been scary for you. A stroke can leave you in a real mess. Last December 14, I was driving my car and became erratic behind the wheel. Luckily my wife reached over and turned off the key. She called 000 and the ambulance took me to Hospital where I stayed overnight. Next morning the Doctor told me I had a Mini Stroke or TIA, whatever that means. I did look it up and it frightened me. A mini stroke can be a prelude to a major stroke in the future, so I'm presently taking it easy. I take medicine for hypertension and my blood pressure is well under control. I also take aspirin daily to thin my blood.  My Cardiologist changed one of my medications and gave me another tablet in lieu of Aspirin. It bothers me that I've been doing everything right, keeping my blood pressure under control and taking aspirin daily, why did I have a mini stroke. No one can give me an answer. I'm coming up 74, in fairly good health, in fact I'm only half way there according to Joe Hockey who states we should live until we are 150 years old !!!biggrinbiggrin

Im only a chicken at 62 and no real serious health issues, other than a bit of wear and tear (and arty in a few worn out joints). A bit slow in the morning and takes me 5-10 mins to get the body moving ok. Sore back and hips in bed. I admire you folks for just plugging on, enjoying your life and saying "to hell with it....its not going to get me down" !!!! Your accounts of the frights you got and the circumstances some of you are in are really inspiring to the rest of us:)

I always look at it this way, You can get old or die young.

I'm older than my father ever was, and I've outlived my last husband. I may not walk so well anymore but I'm still here and still enjoying myself. The glass is half fullsmile
