Planning to head out early June from NSW, traveling north to Cunnamulla, west to Innamincka to visit the Dig Tree. From there down to Tibooburra and the Silver City Hwy.
Has anyone been through that way recently in a motor home?
I asked a similar question last year but as thing happen I didn't make the trip, I also would have been traveling with 4X4 and caravan then.
I'm questioning myself whether a motor home would be suitable for the dirt roads.
The roads mentioned shouldn't be too bad unless wet. Make sure You get up to date road reports. Dropping Your tyre pressure will help, I usually use the 20% rule = bitumen rd onto good gravel drop tyre pressure AND speed by 20% then onto rough gravel road the same again. Doing this You will have a much more comfortable ride & have less risk of a puncture.
The Dig Tree, Innaminca etc. are more than worth the effort IMO.
We went out there last June (2014) and took our off road camper trailer. There were however quite a number of caravans out at the Dig Tree and on the banks of the Cooper Creek at Innamincka. To be honest, no I would not take our van out there, ours is twin axle and the ones we saw out there were only single axle - so what happens if you do a tyre, axle etc???
Had a lovely time, and down the track will go back again, we went out through Thargomindah to Noccundra, The Dig Tree (lot's of flies even then - friendly little critters!) then onto Innamincka. The Town Common was $5 per night into an honesty box - worth twice as much! Then onto Tiboorburra where happy hour is an experience all of it's own, but most enjoyable. We came back through Wanaaring, Bourke, Barrigan and onto 40 kms west of St George before our little camper trailer decided it was such a good bitumen road it would do a 360 and end up A'frame into the red dirt on the other side of the road! Ah, good fun - I think not!!! So you don't panic, it was a hairline crank in a steel plate that caused the problem and broke away.
OK, back to the Dig Tree, the road from Nappa Merrie Station turn off is rocks, not overly large ones, but Pete took it ever so slow over them, and I think it was around 14 kms down into the Dig Tree site. Take it easy and you will be OK.
The rest of the way was quite good sandy roads - watch for the bulldust holes though, roos, emus, eagles and other wildlike. Cameron's Corner was great, but there is a speed camera sign just through the dingo fence back into NSW - no kidding, out there!!!
Have a great time, and safe travelling.

The road to the Dig Tree is extremely rough. If your willing to travel about 10kph over the rough road, then you will make it ok. We had been travelling along the extremely rough Strezlecki track, then came to this and decided it was just too much! Depends on the weather and if the grader has been through to what it will be like.
