Tried out the hot water system on gas - couldn't get it to work - works on power. Little gas stove works. Would anyone have an idea why it won't work. Thanks in advance.
Perhaps there is a pilot light like a gas fridge that needs igniting Nelly. I have a Instantaneous hot water service so is different to most. I too am having trouble getting it hot enough though. Bugga

Hello Doug and thank you for your reply - when I press the gas switch to the heater I can hear the tick, tick. It then goes off and will come back on - tick tick again - and it then gives a failure light. With your instantaneous hot water do you have two knobs on the front of the heater? We have a heater in the gooseneck and there are two knobs that we had to adjust to get the temperature right.
Is it a Truma? It the outside cover removed? It will not start with the cover on.
If the gas has not been used for some time it may take many attempts to clear the air from the lines and get it to start.
Keep trying.

Hi again Nelly, I am only replying as you have asked a question. I don't want to take your topic "off topic" and do KFT (Frank) . It is still on hot water service's anyway. I have chosen to reply here and not via PM as someone might know a better way or learn as well.
I have nothing to control the heater with at the actual unit. There is a temp colour control knob up in a overhead cupboard from cold to so called hot. I have it set about half way in the red within the hottest zone. I found only yesterday under the van approx in the middle in line with the wheels (for some reason) a temp setting valve with five settings 0-5, 5 being 60c. It was set at that but was only just warm so set it back to 50c to se how that goes. Time will tell now.
Another thing I have been told from a fellow traveller with same service, to use the tap mixer at around 7 o'clock and adjust the water pressure until hot. That seems to work only sometimes.
I have also changed the shower head to a smaller one as the one that came with the van was a very large one.
I agree that there seems to be a lack of gas getting to your unit Nelly.
Hope You/we get things sorted soon as winter is creeping up, not that I plane to be around cold weather much.

Thank you all for your replies but I found the problem - the vehicle was on uneven ground so I found a more even spot and viola - hot water via the gas heater. I hope you can sort your hot water problem Doug.

I suggest that this is a coincidence.
The slope would have almost zero effect on a gas hot water service.
We used to have a lot of trouble with our portable gas fridge if it was uneven - it just wouldn't light but perhaps as you said before it may just have had air in the lines but thank you for your reply.
