4 SEASON HATCHES

Has anyone changed from the old model to the new plastic version ?? and if so, how did it work out ?? with particular emphasis to size andater ingress....advices please.

We have 2 old metal units in the roof of our van, the front one doesn`t get much use as it`s positioned over the bed, however the rear unit is in constant use & consequently has needed repairs due to the opening wings popping off the top mounted hinges and I`m looking for a permanent fix, hence the question above......advice from a couple of repairers indicates that we should keep the old version and repair when necessary as they have no confidence in the new model long term. Seems strange to me as I would have assumed the new model would have been up to speed, so to say.

We have a new, plastic one - never had the old one you describe so I can't provide a comparison. The one we have seal OK although the two parts of one of the 4 flaps separated and it was a bit of a struggle getting the 2 parts together again but that was more of an access issue and not trusting the roof of the van that much. The cost of spare parts is exorbitant particularly if ordered from Camec but there are cheaper prices if you're willing to search. Another problem we have is the internal fly screens attract dust like a magnet attracts steel filings and they require frequent and regular cleaning but that's about it.

Regards

Dave

We've had both, the older one's in previous vans and now the newer plastic one, like the new one better so long as it has been installed correctly, many early one's were not so and developed leaks around the seal.

The newer model is easier to clean the filers and plastic surrounds.

Thanks Banjo.....no leaks whatsoever, just the opening wings keep popping off from time to time.

we had to have ours resealed by the Dealer under warranty as one leaked - they said it had been poorly done by the manufacturer to start with.
