appreciate your advice. I am considering purchasing the Hema Maps to use offline on an IPad. ( Ipad Air with Wi-Fi & Cellular). I have been told that the IPad GPS uses mobile phone towers to locate your position. Therefore, the Ipad GPS cannot be used in remote locations.
Does anyone have another way of locating your position so that the Hema Maps can be used without GPS connection.
I would like to be able to mark my current location so that I can track my trip on the Hema Maps.
I'm under the impression that the iPad with a sim slot has GPS hardware built in.
This model will run as a standalone GPS without any need to use a sim card or wifi.
The thing is the software or App as they call it these days needs to have self contained maps like Hema do
then it doesn't need any remote connection other than decoding the satellites.
At least that's what I reckon but it's hard to know these days because society has been so dumbed down and stuffed full of marketing terms as if they are some kind of science.
No sim card in mine, use it as a GPS everywhere as I can see the screen without breaking out my glasses.
I download the programs needed by Wi-Fi at home, never had an issue.
Fun to use your GPS on a plane, that pointer arrow really gets the shakes over 700kmh

Hema runs an on-line service call centre - you will often strike the guywho wrote the software for Hema and maintains and up-grades it.
Suggest you go onto the Hema site and look for their contact details and email them with the queston. You will find out exactly what the situation is and any solutions to problems
I use the Hema 7 GPS unit and when I first got it, used their support people to sort out any confusion

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
I have an iPad Wifi only with no cellular connection and also have HEMA explorer app loaded on it.
I have purchased an SkyPro XGPS160. This is simply a GPS device which collects the signals from the satellites (US and Russian ones) and via bluetooth is able to provide your exact position to your iPad. I have been on the road with the XGPS160 on my dashboard linked by bluetooth to my ipad and been able to watch my progress on my HEMA map app without any difficulty. Also worked with Google maps, and planet earth pro.
