Severe Thunderstorm Warning for damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall for the Gascoyne, Central West, Lower West, South West and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts
Issued at 3:23 pm WST on Monday 2 February 2015.
For people in parts of WA west of a line from Carnarvon to Gascoyne Junction to Mount Magnet to York to Mandurah. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Kalbarri, Northampton, Geraldton, Jurien Bay, Dalwallinu, Mandurah and the Perth Metropolitan area.This does not include Denham.
People are advised that there is a risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS until later this evening.

Monday and today we have had a lot of storm weather heading south - we're at Yancehp, about an hours drive north of Perth city. Plenty of rain - enough to leave puddles in road gutters, but no flooding.
Heaps of lighting, but fortunately rain has followed, so there has been no fresh reports of bush fires. There are currently about 14 reported bush fires on the go at the moment (one has been burning for over 2 weeks now near one of our prisons). The volunteer firies have been brilliant as usual - saw some come up our way and from the home station name printed on their trucks, they have driven for about 3 hours and then straight into long shifts.
We have many hectacres of bush and dry grass opposite us. We are separated by about 400m of cleared sand, but fret about lighting and more so about some scrot with a cigarette lighter

Live in Geraldton Sunday arvo our lawn was white with 10 to 15 mm hail stones and deafning under the patio lasted about half hour.The neigbour had some very minor damage done to his ute didn,t notice till he sat in the drivers seat and looked down the bonnet. Again 5ish yesterday rain thunder lightning but no hail .
we went up to Cervantes for the weekend. Storm warning came over marine radio mid afternoon on Sunday. We had a fabulous light show Sun night but not enough rain to even say there was a shower. We watched the storm just go round us. Apparently Jurien and Moora were hit with hail, heavy rain and wind. Daughter rang from home near Seabird to say no power for 15 hours, the wind and rain was horrendous. Surprisingly our annex stood up to it and we need a new one too!!. We got home late yesterday afternoon and it was hot and muggy. We went down to Caversham/Brabham for a meeting last night and another front came thru as we were leaving and it was a lulu!! Especially driving thru it!! Poured rain here all night . We tipped out 34mls out of the rain gauge this morning for the two days. Wont have to water the garden for a while!! We still have power this morning so that is a bonus too.
Anyway Phil managed to catch a few fish for his two days fishing. Wobbegong had his head caught in a cray pot. (he didn't get a lot of sympathy as he had feasted on the crays!!) but he came home with dhui, groper, crays, herring and skippy so he had a good weekend.

THUNDERSTORM DETAILS: As at 3.40pm on Tuesday 3 February the Bureau of Meteorology advises there is a risk of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and continuing into Tuesday evening. Radar imagery shows potentially severe thunderstorms south of Lancelin and to the west of Gingin and moving south southwest towards the northern suburbs of the Perth Metropolitan area. The main risk to the northern suburbs of Perth is from damaging winds and large hail. Thunderstorms have also developed in parts of the warning area further north. Storms may be accompanied by damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding.

we had a few big hailstones mid afternoon, just enough to realise that it was hail and did the mad race to get cars undercover and it stopped. Had lots of rain , wind and thunder. Looking at the sky there is still more to come. Got the 4am dash to the airport tomorrow so hope it has passed by then.
We've been camped out at Sandy Cape Recreational Park just north of Jurien Bay for a few days now, and where treated to a fantastic "light show" late Monday afternoon through to about 5am on Tuesday morning. Bucket loads of lightning and thunder but very little rain. Only a little bit of lightning last night and a sprinckle of rain. Most enjoyable all the same. What will mother nature bring us tonight..... can't wait to see.
