hello everyone, strop and I are getting a bit sick of hand washing and have decided to buy a washing machine. it needs to be able to wash a single cotton blanket. can anyone recommend a machine? not sure if we can get it fitted into the caravan yet. but if we cannot we will need to look at one that just washes a queen size sheet and the machine can be setup under the awning and therefore would need to be light weight. anyone have a washing machine in their van they can recommend. thanks. rocket n strop
one thing, never use washing powder in any machine, it will eat away the aluminium components.

We have one of those in our van KJ, a little sensitive to where the weight is during spin dry. The cycle is quite long. Eril is happy to have it. It was not on our wish list but now realise the amount of time that can be wasted waiting etc at park laundries.
We had one for the duration of our ownership of our previous van. Never had a problem with and is a competent appliance. Just one thing:
Always lock the tub during travel. If not, the tub will move around and hit the water pump making it U/S.

I will not go past recommending a small twintub which I got for $105 from Sydney 3 years ago. When in power it sits in the shower where water is easy to get plus power from ensuite. It will run from the inverter as well. When camped beside river /dam whatever use it outside & put water on trees nearby. I use Miracle wash balls so no soap suds, no need to rinse & very economical on water. Wash cycle is 12 mins. It will take a queen size flanny sheet no problem. Also use the wash balls at home . Have never had such soft towels etc once all residue suds removed . The only draw back is the wash balls not 100% for greasy work clothes but they do give a stain remover with the balls. While travelling it sits in the back of the Patrol.
We were warned about the movement of the Bowl while traveling by a couple who had the same machine before we got ours,
when they are purchased new, they come with a Polystyrene insert in the bowl to stop this movement, I kept this insert and wrapped it with Duck Tape, this stopped the squeaking of the tub, which was darned annoying as we carried the machine in the rear of our Patrol.
That was almost 5 years ago, purchased the machine while down in Tassie at a C.M.C.A. gathering, still going great,

hi kiwijims, thanks. by washing powder do you mean only use liquid or are you thinking something like sunlight soap? thanks.
In My opinion and based on knowledge gained while running my washer & dryer repair service, I would never use any type of Powder which has any Caustic content, I've seen machines that have been only a year old and still under warranty, had their aluminium parts completely eaten away by some types of washing powder, you can ask any washer Repairer, they will all tell you the same thing, use liquid washing additives only.
The Caustic acid reaction is the main cause of many front loader machines drums collapsing, these machines have a Spider gear supporting the rear of the drum, which is made of aluminium, using Caustic based powder can cause this gear to break.
