We are heading off on our big adventure for 12 months. How does everyone record the trip details on places they went, things they saw, fuel, expenses, photos etc. Would be interested to hear ideas
We take heaps of photos which I later put on a DVD with music for future viewing, I have set up a spread sheet where we record all expenditure and having our own star rating we put notes on places we stay and give them a star rating we also have a section for recording outstanding bits for each day.

Life is like a camera, focus on what's important & you will capture it every Time
I am useless at making written reports. I find it so much easier to use my comcorder film as much as i possibly can of what we do each day then each night sit in front of the camera and recall and record a verbal of the bits I've missed plus the exes we've spent. Every so often it gets put onto a usb stick. Suits me, cos as i said, I'm not a good scribe.
Hi I have an iPad and I have set up a blog on Wordpress. It's free. Regardless of whether you are online or not you can write up and save as a draft. I add a few photos and save the rest to put on computer later. If you have an external hard drive you can back up as you go. I create books of photos and the blog jogs my memory as well as let's family see what we are up to.
I don't record fuel costs etc as I can check my bank acc on the iPad if I need that info. The hard drive is if you are travelling with a laptop.
Wordpress Blog, take a lot of pics and store on 'puter and back up on portable hdd (kept seperately from 'puter), as for fuel prices and camping fees I used to record diligently and then let that bit all go....things change.
I do record by hand in a notebook, details of any really good camp I find - that notebook lives with my camps 8 book.
I also tend to record all the good safe parks/reserves where my dogs can have a good stretch!

I started out using the computer but am a bit slow at typing so now I write in a diary.
It's a Collins 'any year diary' . Each page devoted to a day of the month with no year. So I add the year on the appropriate line then my comment - often just where we were and a comment about the weather. I started this in 2008. So for example on 25th Dec page I have recorded where we were and who was there each yr for the last 7 yrs. It is then interesting when adding new info for a particular day to see that this day in 2009 we were in Lakes Entrance or wherever
I have a self inking stamper that I can set with the year and place and use this if we are in the one place for a while (have stayed put for 3 or more months on quite a few occasions) saves writing the same info on multiple pages.
I do use an excel spread sheet for fuel. (cos it adds it all up) this also confirms where we were on a given day as sometimes I might only write in the diary once a week. Interesting last year we spent $5000 on fuel - WA to Vic to Qld to Vic - 30,000 k's for the yr but not all with the van of course.
In our early days I recorded everything we spent but don't bother anymore. I also write on the calendar when the insurances, rego's, birthdays etc are due. - just copy from one calendar to the next
Oops, that reminds me better fill in the last week

I searched the internet for something suitable to use on my laptop pc. I found nomad Notes and though it does take a bit of setting up originally it was useful for keeping records.
