i was really looking forward to relaxing and watching some quality tennis this January.
Unfortunately I can now only see half as much as I wanted and I am not totally sure about that, it's these loud mouth bad sportsmanship squealers mainly Female who squeal with every shot they play and if they are loosing the volume gets turned up several notches and I did hear one of the males grunting loudly like a pig the other day.
Very poor sportsmanship from supposedly professional sports women and men, I for one will not be watching anymore until they learn to shut up and play the game, I have had enough of me shouting at the T.V in frustration.

Agree AT. I think if memory serves me correct the powers to be in the tennis world were talking about banning all that grunting and screaming a couple of years back. Obviously I am wrong or nothing happened.

Doug - your memory is correct. Two years ago the world tennis governing body degreed that these noises were going to be banned, but it never happened.
The female squealing is part of a re-planned routine with the players coach and team managers in an attempt to put the other player off her game (honourable, huh!!)

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
Here's the applicable International Tennis Federation rule:
"26. HINDRANCE If a player is hindered in playing the point by a deliberate act of the opponents(s), the player shall win the point."
Note: win the point. No let. No warning.
The key word in that rule is "deliberate". The players who grunt and their defenders argue that all the noise is just an involuntary physical response to the exertion of hitting the ball.
In any case, the "involuntary" excuse is already covered in ITF Rule 26:
"The point shall be replayed if a player is hindered in playing the point by either an unintentional act of the opponent(s), or something outside the player's own control."
In other words, a player who objected to the distracting noise coming from the other end of the court could ask that the previous point be replayed, again and again, until their opponent desisted, retired or was defaulted.

"No friend ever served me, and no enemy ever wronged me, whom I have not repaid in full."
The excessive "squealing" and "grunting" by some tennis players is quite a deliberate tactic employed to mask the sound of the ball hitting the racquet.
Players have to use all their senses when they play at the professional level and they use their hearing to help them assess how well their opponent has struck the ball. By distracting the other player with their noises, the squealers gain an unfair advantage. As to why the ATP hierarchy have done nothing to curb the practice, nobody knows. However, if you look at the current bunch at the pointy end of the rankings, it appears they have caved into the cheats.
From a tennis watchers perspective, the only thing that is more annoying than the squealing and grunting is the way the "fanatics" and other organised supporters try to take over with their inane chants and pre-rehearsed "adlibs". If I have to hear the idiot in the Captain's cap sing the anthem - "I am Australian" one more time, before a Leyton Hewitt match, I'll throw something at the TV. Almost as annoying as the chants at every soccer, sorry football, game.
I don't mind the squealing and grunting from the girls !! but the crowd drives me nuts, when they make so much noise they have to be told to shut up from the umpire...
Then there are the inconsiderate sods watching at home on TV, they think nothing of getting up and walking around, making coffee etc during a point, they need to take a long hard look at their disruptive behavior.
Not to mention that the Tennis commentary usually run by a yank.
And the cricket by a Pom.
Obviously Aussies aren't good enough.
Dick.
I can't speak for the tennis but in regards to the cricket what a ridiculous comment. Richie Benaud, Greg Chappel, Shane Warne, James Brayshaw, Ian Healy, Geoff Lawson, Bill Lawry, Jim Maxwell, Drew Morphett, Glenn Michell, Kerry O'Keefe, Michael Slater, Mark Taylorto name but a few Australians providing commentary on the game.

And who is the so called LEAD commentator originally bought in to take Richie's place and be front man? I'm not referring to some of who you mention. We could do without a few of them though due to their insignificant banter.

Well Dick, why don't you say what you mean instead of hiding behind bull****. If you're talking about Mark Nicholas then say so and if you think he has so much sway over the commentary then I reckon you should listen a little closer to what the commentators have to say. If the best you can do to justify your comment about Pommy bias in the cricket commentary is one pom then I reckon you'd better give it up.

I have not mentioned anybody having sway in the Com team but, Mr Nicholas was brought in years ago to take over from Richie when he retires. Well he has already done that. All I'm saying , if you read my post more closely, why bring him in when we have, as you mention many of our own. No B/S here, Just stating a fact you obviously can't or don't want to see. Hey, I'm sticking up for our own here.
Now off to do better things, I think you need to do the same.
I am a tennis addict, but not even I can handle that silly woman bellowing out every time she serves or hits a ball. Mute is a great invention on the remote.....Kisha

A great game with Tomic and I did not hear a single grunt or scream, an option for the worlds tennis associations that would attract a much larger audience would be a prematch warning both on the TV and announced by the umpire "potential screamer or grunter " on court. All of the disgusting cheating by screamers would certainly stop and we could all enjoy a good game of Tennis.

It's definitely cheating as the rules say player "A" cannot do anything that impacts on the playing of player "B" and it's bad sportsmanship anyway.
I have to admit that I get a little bit excited when a screamer gets knocked out of a competition.
Have just been watching scremapova playing a Chinese lady and every ball hit by scremapova her screech echo's around the court but there is a bloke somewhere there putting in the occasional scream and she has stopped to look but hasn't caught on yet, I have now changed channels as its too hot to go out and mow the grass which would be better than listening to Sharapova play
