From Alpine west to Jindabyne

Has anyone done the drive over the snow tops from Albury to Jindabyne

Just wondering what  the road would be like in Autumn and how steep in sections.

We would like to give it a go rather than going all the way round.

I have driven it the other way. The heart stopping hill for some is the one from Tom Groggin to Dead Horse Gap. I just find it is long, twisting and slow going but apart with that there is nothing wrong with it. The steepest gradient and the narrowest road you will encounter is a little way past the Murray power stations, once past those you will have plenty of room.

After you have passed through the ranger entrance barriers after Thredbo just be cautious on the long down gradients. If you don't select a lower gear you may punish your brakes beyond sensible driving (and that will be your heart stopping moment.)
