Hey John. Youre too generous with them - you just don't steal (especially water) from those who are free camping. Thye shouldn't be free camping is they cant sort their own needs out!!!!

Interestingly, my mains supply inlet is on my drawbar and the exterior tap is about 3" away from that. The tap will only work when there is water pressure on the mains inlet - according to the Dealer it is set up this way to prevent theft and dickbrains walking past and turning on the tap and draining your tanks. No doubt it would be easy enough to figure out and adapt yours so you don't forget to turn off your 12v power next time. The exterior shower on my van does work on 12v, but it is behind a locked lid

Its a sad day when we have to start locking everything up - you could use one of these and hope that the lousy thief doesn't have the tap key in his back pocket !

Thanks for the heads up John. I must admit that I had never thought of that. The pump will be left off now until I am ready to use the water MYSELF.

There has been a lot of post on this Forum about having those key tap handles so they can get water from taps that are locked down .

That's why I advocate having the external tap plumbed so it does not draw from the on board tanks. Having it connected to the HP input also assists in conserving your own supplies. There seems to be times when stories like this become prevalent.

A pair of bolt cutters will cut a padlock , Should we use it to cut a lock what is the difference in using and tap key to access someone water if they wanted us to take there water they would have left the handle on the tap .

Well Brickie ,I thought I was the possibly one of few on this forum that thinks that if a tap is not connected to a fixture that you own well ...'It ain,t yours " so therfore you are stealing ! Unless of course owners or their agents as such [E.G.such as the park rangers at Greens Lake that said its OK.] I rarely have ever done so however its always at a large servo and only after if I ask at the counter first and never from a council park etc. I believe you always feel good about yourself when you ask for something even when you know the answer is always in the affirmative . Yes not many will knock you back , We were at the Cunnamulla tourist information centre which is a great centre , This Bloke come in and butts in and said can I steal some water and man at the information centre said no you can't steal some water but we would be glad to let you have some water off he went to fill his caravan up with water , The bloke said after he went you would not believe how many have the same approach .

when I go to a servo in a small town, I always ask 1st if I can fill my water tanks up after I fill my fuel tanks. Sometimes they want to charge you a small amount (no doubt for a beer), but usually no problems. I always ask first with a big smile and greeting - never been refused yet. Many council info centres now have free (or cheap) water taps.

Sadly, I have everything locked or chained/locked down. I even chain and padlock my table and BBQ and its 9kg tank when in a C/P. Talk to those who have been on the road for a long time and they give you a sad story about the light fingered out there

Or put a sign that says: 'Recycled water ONLY. Not suitable for drinking'. When ever I have to put food in the camp kitchen at caravan parks, I always label the bag ' Pet Food Only'.

Pet food only doesn't work any more, us pensioners will happily eat pet food. The local supermarket sells yesterdays roast chickens half price as pet food, they tasted good.
