I don't think Hema is a true GPS system ,like tomtom
i may be wrong about that ,i don't think it will take you from place to place with instructions, but it will show you where you are ,mostly used by people that get off the tar ,
SYGIC is one that is used a lot and i think there is a free version of it, i bought it ,but have no idea what i payed for over the free one lol
Cowboy, Hema Maps is Only an app (the software) that gives you the ability to use your mobile devices GPS system (GPS or A-GPS) for navigational purposes with moving map etc, like a dedicated GPS unit does. The system you are talking about is known as an In Car Navigation System, which uses a GPS receiver to give you position and turn by turn routing etc.

Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
You can buy a Hema produced (they say made entirely in OZ) GPS with software included.
It is not cheap - I bought the current one - the Hema 7 - about 4 mnths ago by mail order and found it difficult to get my head around, mainly because it has 2 "sides" to it - the standard GPS system that covers most of OZ and it also includes the "Camps" info. It also includes dump points, servos, places to eat, other places of interest and caravan parks - so that side of it is more than your standard "TomTom" GPS.
The other "side" - are rasta maps - these are like the Hema paper maps on screen and you can do all sorts of very clever things with it.
Having used various GPS units, the Hema is worth its money for what it delivers and you can actually get on-line help from the guys who make it (rather than the 18 yr geeks that most of these outfits have)
Price - $699!! So not cheap, but its paid its way for us
