my 4.4 kva generator

Howdy All I have just noticed a tread (which is now closed) regarding what people thought of the Chinese version of the Gentrax 4.4 kva inverter generator,

Well I have owned one of these Gennies for over twelve months now  and I must say I am very pleased with it's performance,

I did have one problem when I first bought it though, filled it with 20/30 motor oil and I couldn't get the darn thing to fire,

On contacting the distributor I was told to dump the oil and refill it with the recommended oil 10/30,

this made an immediate improvement , the gennie now starts  easily and will handle any load with ease.

One other thing I noticed, they are not a light weight item, they weigh around 50kg when the tank is full, and they could do with a decent set of wheels under them, not those small things that are supplied with some models.

I have been told that these generators come out of the same factory in China as the Honda do, but my generator only cost 1/3 the price of a Honda.

I purchased the generator off Evil Bay, I know that's a gamble but I have no regrets there,

So if anyone is thinking of buying one, I would say go for it.

KJ  Don't assume that just because they come out of the same factory they are the same quality.

I could ask for 5000  4.4kw generators to be built for me for a cost of $2000 with premium grade 1 components and sell in Oz (with a good wararanty) for say $3000 and make heaps. Profit $1000 per genny.

OR could order 5000 of the same built to cost of $500 with second (or worse) grade component that failed the Grade 1 test at manufacture and sell (with a limited or maybe nil warranty)the gennies for $2000. Profit now $1500 per genny GREAT FOR ME BUT BAD FOR YOU and you think you've got a good deal.

I lived in Malaysia for 3 years seen heaps of sub quality stuff produced.

Not commenting on the gennies per se as I don't know enough about them, but great you are happy with yours.

Cheers Baz

One other thing that I have noticed with my generator is, that as well as only using 10/30 oil, the oil level must be kept full at all times,

this is because they have an auto shut-off control which will activate as soon as the oil level drops,

I spent a lot of time pulling the starter cord and then cleaning different parts to no avail, *&^^#@!!

as a last resort I read the instruction book, that helped  disbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief

I also have a 4.4KVA Gentrax bought online from Outbax Camping for just over $500 delivered. Their service was terrific and the genny works perfectly. It also has a 58dB noise rating which I think is the same as a Honda - or very close.

What I like about it also is the remote facility, He can watch TV etc in bed, then just turns the generator off by the remote and goes to sleep, with the generator chained up to his vehicle with a cable alarm. With our Honda costing 4 times his, its back in the Cruiser with our unit.

Yes my 4.4 will run both at once but, it is putting a bit of a load on the Genny and I wouldn't like to run it too long.

When I first got it over a year ago I turned everything on in the van one at a time just to try it out, first the air con then the microwave, then all the lights followed by the electric kettle and the toaster, it ran the lot but it was revving a fare bit by them.

Thanks KJ

when I arrived in Longreach Jan 12 it was 56 on the van Thermometer took Over 30 to really kick in and I was hoping the Genny working by it self would work effectively

G'day Chris,   that is the same Company that I bought my generators from, I've had three  now from them and like you say they're very fast with their free delivery and only to happy to help if there is any problem. ( I have nothing to do with this Company, in case anyone is wondering )

The first Generator I bought from them was an 4.4 KVA remote control unit that went fine although the starter battery was always flat, but started easily on the pull cord, that unit stayed with the Motor Home when we sold it,

the next Generator was a 2 KVA unit, sold that pretty quick as it wouldn't run the air con,

All problems now solved with the 4.4 KVA unit I have now. It's not a remote controlled model but that's O.K. no more battery troubles.
