The wonderful spirit of grey nomads

Recently we were staying in the Scarborough Holiday Park on the Redcliffe Peninsula north of Brisbane when we were caught up in the storm that wrecked parts of Brisbane. We had to take our new van to have an annexe fitted and became victims of the weather. In our haste to find cover from the hail storm, we severely damaged the air conditioner unit on top of the van. On returning to the caravan park at approximately 6pm, my partner phoned the "emergency" number for the park to ask if we could borrow a ladder to climb onto the roof to secure the van from further water damage. He was told that the office was closed and there was no one to assist us. We knew it would rain again and while trying to decide the best course of action, help from fellow grey nomad travellers within the park came to our rescue. A 4WD was used as a ladder, a tarp was produced and the next thing we knew all hands on deck had our van secured in about 10 minutes. We were incredibly grateful for the assistance we received, complete with the good humour and the true Aussie "no worries" from the wonderful world of grey nomads.

Cheers,

RobandFlip

I agree - the great Aussie "help your mate in times of need" is still alive and well.

Bouquets to the grey nomads who helped you. Rotten tomatoes to the Scarborough Holiday Park. Brenda.

Great that people in the park came to your aid, but the lack of help from park management/staff is a common story.

For all the others that may go on-line to check out this Park before booking or turning up, please, please adversely review them with what happened. If they are a member of the likes of Top 4, these groups hate adverse comment and theres a chance that someone may get their butt kicked over their lack of help to you

I must admit the grey nomads I have met in the very short time we have been out and about, are the salt of the earth. I am most disappointed in the attitude of the CP managers, I guess there was no charge for helping on their price schedule.

Any way good outcome and magnificent spirit by the other nomads, well done.

Safe travels

We recently broke down with broken alternator fan belts as we arrived in Ceduna.   Luckily it broke down in the check in parking spot at the Ceduna Shelley Beach Caravan Park and not where we had stopped the previous time that day in the middle of nowhere on the Nullabor.    The caravan park owner was helpful, giving us a jump start so we could move into our site and letting us know all possible places to get it fixed or get parts.   They were very helpful.

When we couldn't get anybody to fix it for many days the grey nomad on the next site offered to take my husband into town to find a fan belt and spent several hours helping my husband replace it, without expecting anything in return.   We did buy him a case of beer as a thank you.
