Avan LED replacements for quartz halogen lamps

Thanks to the kind assistance of fellow bloggers on another topic, I found what I was looking for.

http://www.ledshoponline.com/caravan-motorhome-rv/G4-bi-pin-LED-bulbs

I also noted that several other Avan owners reported they had bought similar LEDs on Ebay and had problems.

They are not cheap, but the benefits of far lower energy consumption, heat and long term reduction of wiring joint problems are well worth the cost.

I'm sure others reading this will know of more sources for these LEDs.

What issues ? Try changing polarity if not working .. LEDs only work one way..
It is a diode after all..

I recall early failures with some SMDs being mentioned. I don't remember any reports of just not working, so polarity could certainly be an issue in that case and quite likely as who knows how the fittings were wired?

I think you may have problems with the Multi Voltage LED lights giving you TV interference from their power supply circuit. The 12V nominal ones may be a better choice.

Hi, Troopy! That's a good point. I wonder if these are a better choice (and MUCH cheaper!)

Chris, have you had any experience with these? I ask this as they look a little directional to me with their radiation paten.

Hi, Peter!
Yes, it did bother me a bit. So I kept looking and found this one:

www.ebay.com.au/itm/1PC-G4-1-5W-Cool-White-LED-Light-Lamp-Bulb-Reading-DC-12V-For-Car-Caravan-Boat-/201116575150

which looked more like what I wanted. And at $6 each, they are probably close to what I would pay for the Q/H ones anyway. I ordered one to test.

I'll report on how good (or otherwise) they are!

Our Avan has the side pin type downlight housings, so the flat disc type would be better. The spread of light is 120deg from ones I have seen on various sites.

I put LEDs in my van and they are vey good, you cant put them in the wrong way coz the light would shine upwards, I did have to bend the pins a bit to fit.
