Our caravan is for sale, we have put ads in a few places with only one response except for scammers. There are 700 caravans for sale on Gumtree, its daunting!
A question for those who have sold a caravan (not traded in), or bought one, where was it advertised?
Edit... I had too many 0's !

I've purchased 2 vans via Ebay and sold mine via Gumtree. The scam SMS's do drive you made, so I advertise my home phone number and not a mobile, so I don't get the SMS messages at all hours of the day/night.

Trading Post has far more scammers than Gumtree, it must work for them or it wouldn't be worth their while.
Have you tried your local paper, our local has a run it till you sell it offer, you just have to remember to renew every fortnight.
If you are a member of Caravaners Forum they have a for sale section, also CMCA has a paid advertising section in their magazine which also goes online
Gerty, dont know the make or model of your Van but yes there are so many seconhand Vans in the Country now that Dealers dont hardly want them either . Vast oversupply , but hvae found or noticed that if the selling price is fair they do sell.
Either that or like previouse said, get a dealer to sell on consignment..

Hope you're selling so you can upgrade. Can't have you not dropping in here during your travels as you pass by.
Cheers
Jon

Is this thread (from 2014) still the best advice for buying and selling camper trailers and caravans? Is there still no go to site, forum or magazine for market place in Oz esp. NSW? Is Trading Post still rife with scammers?
thanks Steve

Advertised ours on F/b and caravancampingsale.com and nothing. Maybe a scammer or two which were sorted very quickly.
It was priced correctly. After nearly 12 months we gave it away to a wholesaler. It was gone within 1 week as he had it
advertised on Gumtree. Sold for exactly the same $ we were asking for. It seems that for some if an item is above a certain
$ value, one MUST buy it from a dealer of sort. This includes cars as well. The same ignorants also think a house can ONLY
be sold through a real estate agent.
Good luck with your sale.

Buy privately....caveat emptor.
Licensed dealers must give a warranty plus guarantee title under the relevant Act.
Buyers know this.

If its a quality well maintained item & you're asking a realistic price for it, it will sell privately with ease. We sold our boat not too long ago on Gumtree, we had 25 genuine buyers lined up in two days. It was during a lockdown. The first guy to see it bought it on the spot. Our son bought an immaculate older model caravan from a retired couple with health issues on Facebook Marketplace. Pre-inspection he was going to beat the price down, after seeing it he paid the full asking price.

When it came time for me to part with my van I found to sell privately was a lot easier in the long run than to try and sort all the smoke and mirrors and excuses why my van was so undervalued.
My experience was that I received a figure just a little below what all the dealers were asking for similar vans off their lots.
I found for a dealer to take it off my hands (as a favour to me) they offered a very low price.
When you are a genuine seller and are approached by a genuine buyer then usually a suitable deal can be done.
When selling mine I offered for the buyer to have any inspection done and I took the time with some help from a very good friend to display how everything worked.
Good luck with your sale.

Now that name brings back memories of when the forum was a delight to engage in. Yes, the odd flame occurred but, compared to todays lack of respect, and in some cases, downright slagging off at others, it was a great forum to exchange views and impart useful information.
What do we have now?. Almost every week there is a thread closed, and now we are seeing members deleted. It is very sad to see what was once a great place for info and good natured banter, going downhill.

I am interested in selling the Avan, but I'll probably try local avenues initially. Thanks for caravancampingsales.com as I am also interested in buying a camper or small van with modest off-road capabilities, and I really need to bring myself up to scratch after 5 years out of the market.
