Microwave safe dining setting.

We can't find a decent dining setting that is both heat proof and microwave safe.

A regular ceramic set just gets too hot to hold apparently due to the metallic content of clays and glazes they use.

Pyrex doesn't seem to make plates and bowls and other glass settings don't claim to be heat proof.

We also bought a set of melamine which were great for not heating up but last night a bowl exploded and split into shards?

Fair dinkum I'm about to buy a lathe and make a wooden set.

Cook it on the stove mate and just eat out the pot with your fingers. No need to get a setting then smile

Sorry mate, couldn't help myself.

Melamine is NOT microwave safe, although many people get away with it for quite some time before something goes wrong.

We use Corelle, they do warm up a bit in the microwave, but no problems at home or in the caravan. They are light, not expensive, and don't break or chip easily.
Corelle coffee mugs are ceramic, so we use coffee cups made from porcelain, it works well, although they can chip.

And sorry Cloak, wood isn't safe in the microwave either!!!

If your talking about plates and bowls we use Corella tableware , can be bought at Big W as individual items or in settings for four. We have done over 15000 klms with it in cupboards and no breakage either.
Cheers

I have always used. Crown Corningware, the Corella ones. They don't break if you drop them, they are excellent in the microwave, though the plates and dishes can become hot to handle, so I use a pot holder to remove them from the microwave.

To cook things in the microwave I use the Red microwave bowls you can get from Coles and KMart. They are cheap and last a long time,, some of mine are years old.

Gday Cloak

We use an elcheapo set we got from a caravan show, after 2 years now the bowls are showing bubbling and get hot in the MW. Our next set will be corella or the coles version.

I have to agree with Dougwe fingers or paper plates...

Hope you are well mate.

Corelle plates are available from Big W they are almost unbreakable but if you buy white you will always be able to replace, we have had ours for more than 30 years, we also picked up a complete dining set at a garage sale for $5. Target also sell them online. It might be worth your while to look on Ebay or Gumtree for used sets even after a lot of use the don't show signs of wear, so they can be a good buy, they are quite light and good to eat from, as they are a bit like using fine china, when we bought ours the cups were made from the same material as the plates.
Cheers

Thanks guys I've not heard of Corella before I'll go have a look for some.

Cave man style like Dougie suggested is what I'd like to do but others wont let me...

Yeah Phil all good aside from Arthritis in the spine, same old mobility issues...

Cheers guys.

 Agree 100%

Dumped our heavy crockery & replaced it with Corelle along with porcelain coffee cups.

Been going well for over a decade.

Saw the results of a lady dropping a Corelle plate in a shopping center ... went off like a pistol shot & bits spread out over several isles. Just glass with an opaque coating.
