Hey Vic, I note you've deleted your access to PMs. Don't let it get to you. We all get pissed off at times, but follow my strategy of taking it in your stride and not letting people bother you with their opinions and sometimes ravings.. Not worth it... Have a rethink....

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
Vic has deleted himself of the whole Grey Nomads Forum, not just the access to PMs.
It's a b.....y shame there are so many morons out there making life miserable for some people.

Thanks HW yes I just looked up the members list also. Baz

Ditto to what BG has said, it has been very quite.
Would the members that have left this GREAT forum please reconsider and return, i miss the fun that used to be on here and we know you do look in at us now and again.
I nearly left after my avatar and then signature were removed. I was really angry about how this developed. I stayed off the site for a couple of weeks and decided to come back and see what happened.
It is very sad that so many senior members left and after giving years of comment and advice to those of us who needed it.
I notice now that when I log in, any time of the day, there are so fewer people on-line and so few new threads............its no longer a great help site for Nomads :(

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
That comes as a total surprise to me. I know that Vic was somewhat peeved by recent resignations and the reasons thereto but I didn't think he was considering resigning himself. I think we need to develop thicker skins and to ignore troublemakers. They're like flies... you find them where ever you go.
I think Vic is just tired, physically, and also of the nit picking that has crept into this forum recently (over the last 12 months).
The forum has changed in many ways - maybe endemic of more and more members - I think we are over 9,000 now. Was a much smaller forum for a long time, and then more people discovered what a great site and forum The Grey Nomads is - all credit to Cindy(webmaster) for setting it up for us. The more members you have the more chance of disagreements, often over very minor things.
The simple answer to this is to ignore posts by people you find "not your type", or who have opposing views on life and travelling to you. Some people are born troublemakers, unfortunately, or just plain miserable, and don't like to see people enjoying themselves, getting on with each other, or knowing more than they do.
Then there are so called trolls - who delight in joining a forum such as this, and stirring things up - for their own reasons.
I will miss Vic on the forum, as I will miss some of the others who have left recently over things that have happened or been said - I think we should remember the old saying - sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me!
We are supposedly adults, lets all act like it (well mostly!!!!) Life is too short to let the "little" things upset you. Live every day as if it is your last, you never know what is in the future!
Its difficult sometimes to not take disagreements seriously, we need to remember that although some of us have met quite a few other forum members, many like to remain anonymous while they "stir". If you get "stirring" PM's please forward them to Cindy!
Have always found Vic to be an even handed, helpful and dignified poster.
We don't have to agree with everything posted, however there are ways of disagreeing respectfully, a few of late do seem to delight in making personal attacks and being rude simply for the stir factor.
The same people would run a mile if they were called on to engage in a face to face conflict, however feel they can say whatever they want under the cloak of anonymity, gutless wonders!
Its all about treating others with dignity and respect.

Santa, I agree whole heartedly with what you have said. Vic is an ex RAAF buddy and will be sadly missed here, fortunately we have other ways of communicating with him.
I was in his shoes a while back, I let an ignorant bully get the better of me and decided to leave. Luckily it was Vic who talked me into staying. I have to admit I was the one that let that situation get to me, human failings, who wants them?
Take care folks, non carbarundamus illigitimide.. (old greek saying)

Maybe Vic is taking a sneak peek at this Forum as a guest, maybe not. As you have a means of contact, maybe you could persuade him to come back. If he's not looking at this Forum, he wouldn't be aware that a lot of people here are asking him back.... Give it a go...

What the - is going on! I'm not a frequent poster but I have enjoyed being a part of this forum for awhile now. Early in the piece Vic 41 and Wombat and Brian the electrical wizard gave me heaps of very useful and friendly advice and assistance. To drive away such people you have to have rocks in your head. Come back all of you. You are missed by far greater numbers than those who have offended you.
A couple of guys on GN have asked me to get you to reconsider bailing out.
Mate, I know how you feel, the irony is that we had reversed roles a few weeks ago :?
I came back to GNs because of the beaut friends I have made there and some of the great information I can get. I have stopped putting much on the tech blog and will leave that to the others. If Cindy is smart she will eventually ban them.
Anyway, I do hope you are OK, the sort of sh** that comes out of these blogs can and does rattle your brain.
Take care mate, give me a call on I gave him my number if you need to chat ;)
Your friend Phil

I do not think that a post like this is going to do Cindy or the forum any favours, The past is the Past, What has happened Happened, lets stop bringing it up
Yes, !! we lost a LOT of good members, who were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and Humorous, However the very thing that gave them those Qualities, ? was their Intelligence, Lets not insult them by begging them to return, ?
Some members Chose to delete themselves, completely-- That is Their Choice and Decision.
Some Members have formed a great comradarie, and decided to remain members, to continue those friendships, that is their choice and decision
Some members [ like myself ] Have chosen to remain, however Not participate in the same capacity as we once did, I personally log on maybe twice a week now, when i used to log on 3-4 times a day, But that is Our choice and decision,
Many of us past, and present, ? members are also now visiting, or re-visiting other forums and that also takes up a lot of time and gives a broader perspective, ?
So let everyone STOP bringing up the Past, The Grey Nomads is still a good forum, and has lots to offer, both current as well as new members
There is an old saying, !! Do not Dwell on the Past, = As you cannot change it, ? -- Do Not Dwell on the Future, = As it has Not Happened yet, ? ---
Just Dwell on Today, = As it is all you have a chance of Controlling

Its rants like this that keep the pot simmering.
Nothing wrong with Vic's friends expressing regret at his departure and asking that he reconsider.
Thanks everyone. I was also sorry to see that Vic has gone. His positive, helpful and friendly posts were much appreciated by many members, including me. I hope that he will come back to the forum at some stage. I would also just like to remind everyone to please contact me by PM if you have any problems with posts, other members or PMs and I will do my best to sort it out.
