Mate just signed up for New Eagle Camper and wants an in roof TV antenna fitted (For why has all his mates wonder on his state of mind ) the cost for the dealer to fit it before delivery is $800=1000. Seems like a touch for such a simple thing as an antenna on a wheeled tent What do others think or are we out of touch with costings for this type of gear

I'm guessing the New Eagle is a Jayco. Any disruption to the production line of major manufacturers will cost you dearly. The upside is a lower cost product than the small manufacturers.
I was looking at an Avan a while back. They wanted $300 to not fit their flimsy boxed awning, no refund for the awning they didn't use. Work that one out. They claimed the extra cost was taking two people form their regular job to carry the wall around the hole drilling process, for the awning, in the production line,
ISTR a case where a car manufacturer (Jaguar ?) charged more for a car without a sunroof than the same car with one. Apparently the sun roof was a standard feature of that particular model.

I was a purchasing officer with a federal government department in the 1980s.
At that time it was government policy that government vehicles, provided for staff to drive during the execution of their duties, were not to have a radio or cassette player fitted.
Holden, Ford and Toyota all added a cost of $250 to the tender price for the removal of radio/cassettes from their vehicles.

Seems like they all have a scam working . We ,his mates all asked why not a phased array unit clamped to the draw bar, works well on ours or if there is no reception then a pre recorded movie on a USB stick is a great fill in without adds . Just more money than sense
PS. the fitting by the dealer was in their facility not at the factory

Hey Wombat. Sounds like a typical dealer - they make heaps on selling 'vans (unlike car dealers who make their big profits mainly on parts and service) and also screw you for parts and service.
Through their Association, most Dealers offer an extended warranty, but you most get the van serviced every year or so many kms (don't know how they work out how many kms a van has done, unless it is a motorhome). My Dealer will charge me just over $500 per service (to check towbar, bearings, brakes and electrics - not gas fittings or anything inside the van)
I went to my local van repairer (and any van repairer can now do the service work thanks to the intervention of the ACCC). He says it will take him about 2 hours and he will charge me $200 which will include re-greasing the bearings and any minor work required.
Van Dealers are such a rip off.
For the amount they have quoted your mate, he could fit onto his draw bar a satellite dish and de-coder inside which will get him TV anywhere and still have enough change left over to take you and all his other footie team mates out for a night in the pub!!!!!! I bought mine from Access in Perth, WA, and it cost me $642 or thereabouts
