Reporting Credit Card Fraud.

We recently had a call from an Asian sounding bloke who said there was a problem with our NAB credit card etc....scam of course. However that puts you on the alert as this dude said something about an unauthorised debit of $700 from NZ which (naturally) made no sense at all.

So, decided to check with Mastercard who apparently are just a name as they are operated by "Card Services Australia" - there is a 24hour customer service call number on the back of the card, but when you go to read it you find it is unreadable due to the credit card number being punched over the phone number from the front of the card.  This really makes you mad - you are worried that maybe someone is taking your money and you cannot contact anyone to report it.  So checked my wife's card and it was the same - neighbours same again. Had to get it by locating a paper account statement. Fortunately all was OK with the account.

Bottom line - I suggest you do a practice "what do I do if I think my credit/debit card has been compromised" - so you know who to contact even if you are not too sure.  It may happen in a location where you only have your mobile phone and no access to paper records.

Good Luck.

That's a great idea BG - I note that your Mastercard numbers are different to what's on my card or statement.

How did you source the numbers especially the fraud reporting numbers - internet or statements?

Regards

The numbers could have changed of course. It's awhile since I copied these numbers from an article in the Sydney Morning Herald... I no longer have any Australian issued Credit Cards, only Debit Cards.

Had to have a Credit Card when I went on a Cruise about 7 or 8 years ago, but changed to a single Debit Card only, when I got home. [Had to have Credit for on the boat.  They wouldn't accept Debit in those days.]

Cheers,

Sheba.
