Dartmouth -Fort o hare is great. Shekon and I plus lots of other campers have always had a good time here. There is a spring that you can fill up your van on the way in, The toilets are fine although we usually park at the other end and ride our bikes to the loo.The pub has not bad meals and the locals are a treat. About 40 kms fom Mt Gambier on the Melbourne side

This is in the camps book.

There's also Greenock Centenary Park GPS -34.4586649, 138.9287589 (donation), Martin's Bend now costs $5 per night as does SS Ellen Park at Lyrup (although there are limited number of sites with free power). The showgrounds at Murray Bridge only charge $10 a night for a powered site. Invest in Wiki Camps, firts 14 days free then a single payment of about $8 - far easier and more up to date than some of our memories.

Regards

Dave

Which way are you comming in to SA from? Then we can tell you where the camps are for that area?
Also, I love my 'Camps' book, just about to get the new one and add that to the CMCA friendlies one has a vast array of sites!

My Van, around the SE of SA Penola has just opened up a free camping area. Tantanoola is another spot, either up by the caves I believe, and also in the township by the pub. There is a place around here called Mt Schank that you can camp at also, but I have checked it out and believe me it would be a very tight squeeze and very hilly.
Down by the sea, Carpenters Rocks Hotel has just opened up the paddock next to them for camping. They are in the process of putting in a couple of powered sites also. Pub has great meals. Nice little fishing village, about 24k's from Mt Gambier.

Gday...

Sorry to say it Paul ... but those once free camping spots along the Great Ocean Road are all now Fee-Sites.

The two Aire River and Johanna Beach camps - were no charge but now are $34/night plus $10 booking fee. It all changed on 1 July this year.

If you are at Greens, surely Yeoeleven, Jules/Billeeeeeee (7e's), and others can tell you of places they have stayed. confuse

Cheers - and safe and healthy travel - John

Hi my van, thought i'd put my two cents in, I loved staying at Iron Knob SA, its an old mine, the town is abandoned, you can stay for free, there's a dump spot., there's water, toilets., nice to walk around the old machinery, and tools, they have an info centre also., - cheers Fran floating.gif

We were in a great free camp at Mallala (30 clicks west of Gawler). Has shower (4 min timer) clean loos and you can get a key for $5 a day, well worth it. If you are into cricket, you are right on the oval. Only downside it is next to a dirt road that gets a little traffic.

Enjoy
