This is owned by the local Shire and managed by a guy in his 60s and his partner who is 25 yrs younger. They have 3 young kids which keeps her on the go, but she does most of the work. You seldom see him and he will avoid talking to you. She is very friendly and works hard managing her family and as much as she can do in the Park.
The Shire has just spent about $700K (so the locals tell us) on a new amenties block, and they did a great job. No expense was spared.
They have also installed a new kitchen with plenty of covered eating area, freezer, fridge, stoves, microwaves, kettles, crockery, cutlery and scattered round the park are covered free gas BBQs and tables.
SADLY, the Managers are not up to keep the place in good order. In the mens area, they have individual ceramic urinals similar to those in shopping mall toilets. We stayed there for 7 nights and the toilets we never cleaned. This left urine marks all over the floor underneath the urinals, soap splashes all over the shower walls and shower curtins and dirty toilets.
I emailed the Shire over a week ago congratulating them on their big investment, but pointing out it was not being maintained properly. Result = no response !!
Also the park is on the main road and semis rumble through the town all night heading east and west to various mine sites and towns. If you want a good nights sleep, try to park your 'van as far back from the road as possible. Best fuel prices at BP.....best roadhouse food at other end of town. Poor service and supplies in general store, ok meals in new pub in evenings (both pubs owned by both lady). Historical sites are very poor and hard to find. Fantastic museum - on a par with a city museum - highly recommend it - takes about 2-3 hrs to go through.
Mt Magnet Gold is not tourist friendly so don't expect to get tours, scenic viewing spots etc like the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie
