Norfolk Island Day Two

Remembrance Day 2014 at Norfolk Island

I attended the Local RSL club yesterday and introduced myself to the local President and the Vice President who made us feel very welcome and as such, I formed up with there very small contingent of members to remember the day the guns fell silent all those years ago today. The service was very well attended by locals and visitors to the Island like myself. They have a local Cadet unit which is very involved as well. As part of strengthening friendship I donated my blazer patch as the they have a board where such items are displayed. The President was also surprised that the NSW Police actually have a sub Branch so I thought it was good from that point that I made it know that yes we do exist. It was also very interesting to note that the police only work to 5pm and there is no RBT???? This afternoon Roxy and I then embarked on a tour of the Island which was very good with an afternoon tea of tea and scones yum oh. It seems that life is very good here no crime and no tax but they do pay through the nose for most things Fuel for instance is $2.64 p/l a 45KG bottle of gas $180 but they pay no tax buggered if I know I could not afford to live hear on my meagre pension so its only a place to visit ONCE. Anyway enough for today Roxy and I are off to dinner and a bottle of Wine LOL

Sounds like a good day all round over there C1 Hope you are both well.

C3 decided my bed was better than hers in the wee hours of this morning, cheeky bugga. She is a bed hog too. You have been teaching her bad habits mate.

We had a good play outside today.

Holden were great today too. Very helpful and car looks nice a clean after they washed it, thanks Garry.

Good report Gas n Roz, regards no crime, they did have a lengthy investigation there a few years ago and an outsider who was working on the island was charged with her murder.   Something like the first crime in 150 years, see;

PS: Years ago a NSW Police Sergeant called Ben Hall gave me and some others some training in unarmed combat (I was in the Army at the time) it definitely was not the sort of stuff that would qualify for the marquess of queensberry rules.

Found the Book that was written about that murder in one of my Op-shops a couple of weeks ago.  Haven't read it yet.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Looks like the Island is in a spot of financial bother as well, see;

We had a wonderful week on Norfolk a few years ago.

A fantastic place with amazing history.

I still purchase my Zwilling JA Henckels kitchen knives from Pete's Place.  It's the large 'Hardware' shop at (I think) Burnt Pine Village.  They have a great mail order set up & very good prices too. At least half mainland prices.

Both my Son & I now have excellent collections of 'Professional S' kitchen knives thanks to Pete's Place.  They make great XMAS & Birthday presents.

A very memorable part of the trip was getting there.  Due to rotten weather it took us 2 days, including a detour via New Zealand.  But the weather was perfect after we arrived.

We loved the Progressive Dinner & the Sunset BBQ plus a few of the amateur Convict Plays.  Don't miss the Cemetery. We liked the Panorama painting of NI too.

Enjoy
