The time has come to replace my phone, my son says I must get a smartphone, no other choice but an I-Phone, would like to have some feedback on anyone who has one, are they really worth the money and so much better than the other ones out there.
I have had two iPhones the 4S and now the 5. OK but the latest ****-up with the new software has me so annoyed. The last one left me without a phone for a week till the glitch was fixed. It appears the latest update was also faulty and I am not sure if it has been fixed.
I have Telstra Wi-Fi with 8 Gigs a month. The latest upgrade is 5.7 Gig I won't upgrade the software till I visit my son who has unlimited download on cable.
He swears by the HTC One which takes about three minutes to update where the iPhone can take an hour.
Both Android, both have big screens and almost the same features. Others go for the Samsung range and swear by them. All I can say is you have to see the phones for yourself and decide which one you like the look and feel of. If you use iTunes for Music etc you may want to go iPhone for ease of putting music on your phone.
I have the iPhone 4s Blue Tick for extra rural cover. Best phone I have ever had since the old brick days.
I use it for connection to the www via wi fi and personal hot spot. I can have my iPad, Laptop and printer all going at the same time if need be. Takes a surprisingly good photo too.
I'm sure others will have their ideas of phones though.

How the hell are we supposed to decide ...........there is so much out there, I would probably get it on a plan and for the first month you get an extra 25 GB, called "peace of mind
"plan, I suppose it gives you extra so you can download your photos, music and anything else you want to put on the phone, but after that gee the cost of data allowance is not cheap. Not just for I-phones but for all of them.
It's like everything Pauline, if you want it you have to pay for it.
I want good coverage with a good phone as it is my only way of keeping in contact with family and friends so pay for enough data etc to cope with my needs.

Just heard on the T.V new phone out only $99, apparently has everything that the others have on it but just a bit slower that is all, may be worth looking at. I guess a plus with it as that you don't have to go on a plan with it as you can just buy a card when you need to. Sorry couldn't catch the name of it even the interviewer couldn't pronounce it.
I've recently entered the smart phone market and bought an Apple iPhone 4s for $150 second hand. I only need it for the basics and it is working out well for me.
It does take a good photo in the daylight so I don't have to worry about lugging my camera about. I too got this model for the Telstra Blue Tick.
It is a daunting decision as there are a lot of phones out there but you need to just work what your budget is and what you want to be able to do with it and go from there.
I've just upgraded from using trusty Nokia blue tick phones for many years ..
One of the primary reasons being that I wished to be able to access WikiCamps ..
Many of my friends also recommended an iphone, but after some considerable footwork and soul-searching, I decided on a Samsung Galaxy S5 ..
Now .. did stick with telstra for coverage and feel that I got a good deal under a 2 year contract ..
Up to $700.00 in phone calls (within Oz) and 2.5 GB in data @ $70.00 p/m .. (through JB hi fi) ..
.. the Galaxy functions beautifully as a hot spot (modem connect) for the computer and 4G coverage is greater now using this unit .. learning curve is starting to kick in now ..
and it suits me !
PS .. forgot to add that the phone was free .. I believe they're priced around the $800.00 mark ..

Apple own you if you have an IPhone, saying that Raine loves hers, just one word of warning if you are travelling with a wifi modem make sure I cloud and wifi is turned off or the phone will back up all your files all the time and eat up your data allowance
I have the iPhone 5S (luv it!) and Neil has a newish Sony Xperia Z2.
He did own a Samsung S3 but that went for a swim so he opted for the Sony as it is, amongst other things, waterproof. Telstra guy sat his Sony in a bowl of water for 15 minutes, dried it off and it suffered no ill effects.
Cheers

We've had Apple iPhones for years, texting is a breeze, camera is great on the iPhone 6. There is a bit of a learning curve but you won't look back. Good luck with your decision.
Apple, Apple, Apple. But what would you expect from an Apple fan boy. Just got my new IMac 5K absolutely beautiful, but as I can't take that on the road, I can't wait to get my new IPad Air2 for my birthday, never looked forward to turning 60 so much. Sic I know.

Looking that way Doug, but still weighing up my options.............one thing I do like about the Telstra plan is that I can share my data allowance between my phone and laptop.
If you have an Iphone and use it the hot spot feature you can connect up tp I think 5 devices to share your data. Sorry if you aleady knew that, but it might help you to make the right decision, and buy Apple. ( Oh now I'm being naughty)
Woops never done this before, I think it's going off topic, but Doug I love the new avitar very swish indeed.
Cheers
Greg

I have an Apple iPhone and love it, my daughter also had one, then changed to a Samsung smartphone and after a couple of months changed back.
I have Apple everything, phone, iPad, laptop, shuffle. In fact all my daughters (3) have them and wouldn't be without them. Oh and my iPhone only takes about 10 minutes at most, but mainly about 5 minutes to do updates. If it was an hour I'd be complaining.
Just heard on the T.V new phone out only $99, apparently has everything that the others have on it but just a bit slower that is all, may be worth looking at. Was it a Huawei ("who are we") Ascend Y550?
A friend who runs an international business supplies his employees with Huawei phones. Not sure if it's a cost based decision, but he seems to be happy with them.

Apple, Apple, Apple, need I say more, had an Android so called smart phone, ok did the job but no comparison to my Iphone 4S and Ipad Air.
Not the cheapest but just the best, and for a lady, well my wife has never been computer savvy in any way, daughters bought her an Ipad for her last birthday and within a week it is welded to her hand !
It's the first thing she does in a morning and probably the last before we retire to bed ! Ha Ha she just loves it.
As said steer away from the Icloud backup as it uses heaps of data, just use a pc to back up if needed.
Wouldn't touch an apple with a 40 foot barge pole, there are too many restrictions and inflexibility. they are too fragile being a bloke I cannot remember how many time I have dropped my phone and no damage, if it was an iPhone if have had a few screen replacements.
the other negative with iCrap is battery life unless you turn everything off wifi, GPS, Bluetooth etc. etc. it sucks the guts out of the battery, my work phone was a iPhone 5 the best I could get was 6 hours out of the battery, since changing to an Samsung 2-21/2 days and that's with everything turned on
For me I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, my tablet is a Toshiba which enables me to plug in SD cards, USB port Mini and Std HDMI ports and I didn't need to buy an adaptor, my Laptops are bot Toshiba a Tecra and a Satellite.
Gundog, I get about 3-4 days out if my iPhone before I need to recharge it. The only time the battery gets drained quickly is when I play games on it. I have dropped my iPhone a number of times and never even got a scratch on the screen.
People are either for iPhones or against, but each to their own.
