Sometimes just lending an ear

By chance today I got talking to a couple at the shopping centre.  Seems they had an accident with their caravan a few weeks ago (near Innisfail).,  They hit a bump going over a railway crossing & then a large pothole & something to do with the suspension on the caravan gave way & it rolled.  So now they are getting frustrated as the caravan repairer is lax & slow in getting an assessment to their insurance company & until he does so they are not sure if the incident will be covered by insurance.  So we had a long chat - mainly them getting it all off their chest.  They said it was great to talk to someone who could appreciate their frustration & understand a bit about it was to be stuck in strange town with out their caravan to live in & just give them some sympathy.  So eventually I sent them on their way with a hug & a wish that their trouble sorts out soon.

I wonder about these repairers sometimes , my son had an accident with his car and basically only scratched the front and rear bumpers and a broken suspension upright , it took them 12 weeks to repair and still didn't do a good job . Being stuck in a strange town without knowing what is going on would be a nightmare to any of us .

A kind word, or a hug works wonders if you are feeling down. A fellow GN (from this forum) called me on the phone when I was going through my last dark period, this complete stranger with the Scottish accent made my day, I am sure we will become firm friends.

Look after yourselves.

I had a friend many moons back "Albert Fox" he owned and ran the "Darnum Music Village" near Traralgon, Gippsland VIC.

Albert played many different music instruments and tuned pianos. His favourite was the one in the video. Albert always was great to listen too and got his audience involved at the same time. I haven't heard from him for some time and would sadly say he has probably moved to the great music hall up stairs.

There is a wealth of knowledge out in the playground and on here, we just have to tap into it.

Thanks for all the kind remarks but I didn't post my story with the intention of getting kudos just to point out that sometimes it takes very little effort on our part to be of a help to someone.

Yes Kandagal, when I was broken down in limbo, i appreciated the kind words, support I received from GN's made me feel i was not alone. Good job sometimes all you need is someone to listen.

Not that you were gossipping, you definitely were not, but this reminds me one of my elderly (or so she seemed to me at the time) relatives, Great Aunty something, once said. "By listening to gossip, you are helping the one telling you feel important by listening........." There was more, but what you just described brought that part back strongly.

Sometimes, just being heard is enough. Good job.

Just the sense of "Being heard" helps to heal, as you said Alice. Good on you, and I hope they can get their van back quickly.
