Using 'General' and "I Digress"

I am getting concerned about all the NON-travel advice and tips that are now being posted in the general forum. I would have thought that many of the subjects have nothing to do with travel and should therefore be in 'I Digress'.confuse

I enjoy the forum but also get frustrated especially when there are so many posts that have Youtube links that have nothing to do with General (travel tips and advice!).

Actually - I wish sometimes that there was something to show that the post is just a link to Youtube so I wont bother opening it - chews up my prepaid allowance watching them. no

Of course - I should have posted this in the right place......and will biggrin

It's all in the interpretation of the forum headings. It is a forum and if it was 100% perfect I personally would not be in any way interested. Human nature. I find threads that digress can be more interesting that those that follow the straight and narrow.
Spida - with due respect and showing my ignorance I must say that I don't know if the thrust of this thread is fair dinkum or is it dig at the rules or similar.
Regards

It is dinkum. I use general for travel info but find myself scrolling down through so much 'other stuff' that probably should be in I digress. Hence it is meant as a gentle reminder that maybe a little more thought should be put into where you should put your posts.smile

Is to digress from the 'General Forum' agenda to discuss what is suitable for the 'I digress Forum' and what is suitable for the 'General Forum' in itself a normal digression or a general digression. If we figure that out then maybe it will lend itself to an answer to the threads initial question. Or... is that too much of a digression?

Have fun biggrin.gif

It is one problem that will never be solved. There have been many, many times when a gentle hint has been thrown around but people being people, humans being humans they do what they like.
Another one is all the jokes in I Digress instead of Just Joking, it will never change.

I have already replied to this in the "I Digress" thread. Don't really want to repeat it again.  You know where it is if you're interested.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Actually it is Tuesday Blue, but perhaps I should mention that in a different forum. evileye.

This forum is becoming too finicky for me too I reckon.

Well Spida has a point.

If you are sitting home with ADSL2 and 200gb per month to burn up - no problems.

But one point Spida was making if post are put in the right place we can avoid excess data usage for those of us that have wireless for "on the road".

This was canvassed ages ago and Spida is right.

Also Greens was started for those that are not interested in Greens.

My 2 cents worth.

BLUE: if you are pi55ed on FRi/sat or otherwise unable to think clearly,,,, just don't post,,, simple eh.

I have configured my regular browser not to display images by default. I also make use of OffByOne when I know that a page will be infested with bandwidth-sapping rubbish. OffByOne doesn't support Javascript, so this means that ads, popups, banners, flash intros will be disabled. You can also configure your browser's ad-block feature to cut down on unwanted "content".

Another favourite of mine is Google's text-only cache. This is particularly useful when all you want is the text based information, not the monetising adware that is embedded with it.

For example, compare this ...

Maybe relabeling could be the way to go to stress the correct content of the individual forums. Maybe the 'General' forum could be relabeled 'Caravaning Chitchat'  and 'I Digress' could be called 'Random chitchat'. Cindy could even make a pole to have us choose names.
