Baby Boomers on the dole - well how are they supposed to get work?  It is not easy for anyone to get a job these days I have heard, let alone older Aussies.

But the other side of that coin is the volunteer work some of them do - this country runs on volunteers - so many small organisations could not run without a bank of volunteers - Visitor Info Centres in most towns are run by them, Red Cross, Op Shops like Vinnies, Sally's and others rely on them.  Schools are always seeking people for reading, and many, many more organisations. 

So next time you visit an info centre or op shop, buy a raffle ticket or whatever, thank the volunteer nicely, may be another Baby Boomer doing their bit.

I think I was a Baby Boomer..... Can't remember but I think I did make a few !!! 

I read a very brief report in recent years where Bronwyn Bishop dismissed the claims that the Boomers were going to be a huge burden.   I have been unable to get any details.  It was probably not the sort of sensationalist bumpf that the media needs to serve to their very short attention-span readers.  Bronwyn Bishop was likely shining some light in areas that didn't suit the 'progressives'(?!) in politics and the media.

Regarding the media and the researchers - almost all with a guvvy grant and a secondary agenda to serve - I don't know how we are supposed to give their findings any credence anyhow when 'Baby Boomers' is used to refer to people born over a span of twenty years.  The ABS is all over the place as well.

Not much on age discrimination out of The Hon Susan Ryan AO, who was appointed as the Age and Disability Commissioner.  She seems to be part of the 'get a job' set.  A cynic might say that ex-politicians with the right (Left in this case) connections would never fear unemployment.  Then again, with the generous parliamentary pensions and that rather nice full indexation that they reportedly deny their 'employees' - public servants who paid for their pensions - jobs and directorships are rather delicious icing on an already rich chocolate layer cake.

Nothing said either about the growing rump of ex-PMs who apparently cannot do without all sorts of very expensive entitlements.

Don't want to start a bun fight or be too specific, but the dress of some of the newcombers to this country must also add to the welfare bill, those who males sport long shaggy beards and white dresses and those females who use a full cover up.

They don't seem to be in a hurry to make themselves employable or presentable for an employer 

I should add they are not the only ones who are young enough to be employed but don't make themselves presentable, but all of them add to the welfare payment problem, so maybe they need to look at these people instead of blaming us old farts.

Agree we don't have to worry about it anymore Billeeeeeee, I had a nice beard once (after retirement) but I am jealous of Yeo's, he'd look good in Haji cap and a long white Robe.....
