Digital TV Reception

Last week  in Coonabarabran and Dubbo we had terrible trouble with TV reception, especially ABC channels. On earlier visits we had no trouble picking up 24 channels. Wondering if the recent compulsory "Retune" has queered the pitch. Has anyone else recently encountered such problems? Are they trying to push us all into buying a VAST system?

Our signal comes from Coona, we have had no real problems with TV reception for 20 years until the "retune", confuse now we have lost most channels except for SBS1, SBS2 and NITV.

We have contacted ACMA and advised them of our loss of signal and they said "that's life" and we will now have to invest in a sat TV system at our cost.

I have complained to our local federal member.....we are still waiting a reply. furiousfuriousfurious

shocking TV all over Aus - even in towns - since digital change. Was supposed to be a better system. I refuse to get satellite - and dont miss TV now anyway as not a lot worth watching. Thank goodness people still write books!

Hi Migra

If you recently had to "retune" and have lost channels you may want to check that your antenna is compatible. Lots of places had a band 5 antenna installed where the local channels were in that band and since the retune has possibly moved them to band 4 you may have to look at changing the antenna.

Not all new tv antennas were band4/5 compatible.

Could be the same at Dubbo.

We're on the NSW south coast and since the retune we no longer can get Channel 10, very seldom would watch that channel  anyway, but have found if I run the television through our recording machine, there it is - no problem.

Cheers,

Annie

Some PVR machines have an amplifier in them to boost the signal.

I found when I had to retune one of our TV's and about six of other peoples as I was the go to man in town, Some had to be set back to default before retuning before they would pick up any channels at all. Once I clued in to this it was easy peasy.

Some a rescan worked fine and all channels were there, Some a reset back to default was the only way to get it working with all channels.

So to anyone missing channels reset back to default which will erase everything and start from scratch and include scan.

We rarely have any problems - a few days ago we stayed at Capricorn Caves north of Rockhampton where they have plugs on the power connectors for your TV aerial. The site is in amongst a thick canopy. We didn't need to connect to that and just use one of those cheap Chinese Ebay aerials on top of our Avan. Also have antenna mate on the iphone to find out where to point it. Surprisingly we had virtually no AM radio reception but FM was great???
