New van accessories

We are waiting for the call to say our new van has arrived. And starting to get a few things ready. Might be a silly question but do they come with a power lead Or is that up to us as well. Now what how long do most people have, 10 mtr or 15 mtr.

cheers peter

Hi OMD

In my opinion, 15 meter is OK as long as its the proper 15A lead (mind you thats only my opinion). Bunnings sell a larger blue lead with locking female end for the caravan connection, its worth the extra cost. Better to be safe than sorry.

Safe travels

Hi Peter, congrats on the new van. When we bought our van it was up to us to buy the step, power lead (20 meter)and hoses. Some sellers sell a kit that has hoses ,power leads and some other items. We now have a 25 meter lead because the 20 meter was to short for some sites and I will not join two leads to make it reach.(safety issue)I hope the call comes soon, get out there and enjoy it....cheers Peter

that will depend on the dealer
you would normally have to supply hoses/leads /sullage fittings etc
check prices at local outlets (bunnings or camping stores ) and compare to dealer prices
the other thing to consider is if you require wdh

We have two, as hubby doesn't like to coil extra electric cable up under the van, or join them. One is 5 meters, the other is about 20 meters I think, its huge. Both have been used regularly.

Hi Peter

Just Couple of things you will need, Towing mirrors for your car, I would get two 10 mtr 15 amp power leads, and one. 10 mtr sullege pipe, two 10 mtr white drinking water hoses, and maybe some spare water hose fittings,a set of levelling ramps or a couple of small blocks of wood, that should be a nough to start you off, you may need a Weight Distrabution Hitch depending on your towing set up,  hope this helps.

Hi Peter,

i think these are all extras, sucks I know but these things are best negotiated before paying your money, my suggestion to you is depending on your location and retailers in your area, join firms like Rays outdoors and BCF, free to join these and offer good discounts and specials. Have a look at their sites and goods online to compare prices. Don't rush to buy all your goodies, shop around and you will save heaps.

I am not affiliated with any of these retailers other than a happy and great full consumer.

Cheers thanks for quick replys everyone. 15 to 20 mtrs sounds about the go on power . Yes I do need WDH and have that all under control . Have the mirrors, good heavy duty ones. Just water and sullage hoses to get us mobile anyway. What are your thoughts on those roll up flat water hoses. Space saving was where I was looking. Had a pop top some 10 years ago and still got a little bit of stuff needed in the shed, levelling blocks and wheel clocks etc etc. the phone doesn't leave my side now. And I hate waiting. Looking forward to getting out there.
Cheers peter

Hi again Peter

Well done on the new van by the way, we tried the flat hoses and not too happy, I may be doing something wrong but IMHO not too flash.

Enjoy the playground.

I believe you can get sullage hose that is ribbed but smooth on the inside - sounds a better option than the ordinary type that is ribbed inside and out

Hi peter , we got a " Flat out " roll up hose plus a coil of sullage hose and a few other bits and pieces from caravansplus.com.au/
Service and delivery was good , and the roll up hose is great, very well made ( not cheap , but you get what you pay for )

Cheers ken

Im told the ribbed inside sullage hoses tend to stink more. We have the smooth inside and flush with clean water whenever we can.

Enjoy

when we bought our van it came with a 15m 15amp cable, but the rest we had to buy. Make sure your sullage outlet on the caravan actually hose a fitting on it - many are just PVC with no screw end. Our dealer supplied all the fittings with the 'van.

Buy plenty of tap fittings of various sizes - most public water supply taps and caravan parks do not supply them. You will loose, misplace or forget to take it off the tap, so make sure you have a good stock - not an expensive buy from the likes of Bunnings.

Beofre you drive off on your 1st trip, go through and actually make sure you have everything you will need and they fit to each other.

Good idea is to do a weekend at a caravan park and shake down whats wrong with the 'van (sorry, but there will be plenty of mainly minor warranty issues with it) and also what youre missing

Thanks again everyone, yes I'm sure there will be a few faults with it and I'm sure I will forget something.
Cheers and thanks again.
