WHAT IF

I WOKE THIS MORNING WITH THESE WORDS RATTLING AROUND IN MY HEAD. THANKS BLUE FOR ASKING THE QUESTION.

WHAT IF

I have heard it tell that a man's house is his castle

All wrapped up on land like a neat little parcel

Once I had a palatial castle to call my own,

All pretty and well maintained,

My kingdom I surveyed on a daily basis,

Wondering What if I lost it in some crisis,

What if my neighbours decide to change,

Where would I be if there was to be an exchange

What if the paints begins to peel and stain

What if my joints begin to pain

What if cracks appear in the walls

And the windows get hit by a ball

What if the weeds are out of control

And the police forget to patrol

What if the silence becomes so deafening

That life in the castle starts to feel threatening,

What if I became a nomad with only wheels under foot,

Now what if that life was just a great big hoot,

What if the smiles abound

What if  I abandoned the frown

What if my health was improved because I no longer worried about a weed,

What if I lived my days in pure bliss with little or no concern

What if God said at those pearly gates,

You did yourself a bloody good turn,

Because...........

What if you had never let those tyres down the highway burn!

Darn meant to put this in the Solo section to answer a thread that is there. OH well no worries, guess that is what happens when I don't think about the What if's. What if it is in the wrong section, guess what somebody will tell me and I will smile at them and say Oh Well that is life, deal with it.

" What If " All the urgers declared their financial status, bricks and mortar and investments before encouraging people (maybe alone and lonely ) to sell their homes and use some or all to buy a c/van or MH which will be worth bugger all in a short amount of time to join them in the playground. Being 80 or 90 living in a clapped out MH does not seem like bliss to me, But i was wrong once before may be wrong again. So if there is any 90 yo out there towing his van around the playground set me straight..I assume,( yes i know one should not assume) That most of the urgers are relatively financially secure and have a solid plan B in place when their roaming is done.. LET me get behind this tree before you all reply......OK ready........

Glennt sorry if I upset you, not my intention. I always say what I am doing is right for me at this point of my life, it is not for everyone. I understand that. I thought long and hard and it took me 2 years before I hit the road. I have no idea what is going to happen in the future, I don't believe any of us do. Best laid plans of mice and men.......

These were thoughts that I awoke with this morning and I put them to paper. Only sharing not making it a law.

I am happy with my life and so very grateful I am able to do what I am doing with the blessing of my family. Who knows next week I may decide to do something different. Actually I did meet a lady who at 90 travels for 3-4 months of the year in her little MH, a few weeks ago. What an inspiration.

Live and let live and do it your own way.

glennt,

You are right that anything on wheels is discretionary expenditure and in many cases a fast depreciating asset with possible high maintenance always on the horizon. Also that the future needs to be planned for.

There are threads on those issues and the pros and cons of alternatives.

The way both sides of government are going with policy, and the minor parties offer nothing feasible, it is a lay-down Misère that at least in the bigger cities very few are going to be allowed to live out their lives in the family home as our parents chose and were able to do. Leapfrogging Council rates alone will force most out into the street - which causes great joy to the entrepreneurs who sell expensive retirement boxes in re-developed undesirable 'burbs far away from the familiar surroundings of the elderly.

You may have seen the retirement alternatives in caravan parks (similar to overseas) that are being developed and hocked. -You lose land title and privacy, but have somewhere to live.

Maybe some leap and choose to live while they can and still enjoy some felxibility, knowing that government WILL take it all (and that is becoming much sooner that later)?

Why not enjoy shekon's whimsical humour though? We are all equals here. We all struggle with the similar challenges and experiences of ageing.

Your worries are real. Your questions and concerns are common to most. Maybe raise a new thread and call for ideas?

Be careful about the caravan park option. Report last week that a park in Cervantes, WA, had been taken over (by an offshoot of the RAC, for heaven's sake) and they were getting rid of all the permanents.

One young bloke who'd just paid $30,000 for a home for his family was NOT a happy camper. Seems the permanents were told that because their vans could not be towed (rusted tow bars, etc), they would have to be taken to the tip on a low loader and dumped. Presumably at the owners' expense. Most of them had nowhere else to go and the RAC's attitude was, basically, "tough titty".

Cheers, Tony

 Hi

I want to keep a property for all sorts of reasons.  That means some concessions have to be made.
